Senior Send-Off
The nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team is home for the final weekend of the regular season this weekend where they will honor their six member senior class and need just one point to clinch their first ECAC Hockey Regular Season Championship in program history. The Bobcats host the Union Dutchwomen on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 P.M. before hosting the Rensselaer Engineers for senior day on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 4 P.M.
All-Time Against Union
Quinnipiac remains undefeated against Union with a 24-0-4 record in their 28 meetings after shutting out the Dutchwomen 5-0 at Messa Rink on Jan. 9. The Bobcats have won six straight games after a tie on Nov. 9, 2012. Over the six-game winning streak, the Bobcats are outscoring the Dutchwomen 23-3, and have recorded four straight shutouts. In their first meeting of the season, the Bobcats skated past the Dutchwomen, 5-0, with goals from five different players. Nicole Brown and Nicole Connery each tallied a goal and an assist while Kristen Tamberg and Melissa Samoskevich recorded two assists each to give the Bobcats four two-point scorers.
Scouting the Dutchwomen
Union comes into the game winless in its last 49 games, a streak dating back to Dec. 13 of last season to set the new NCAA record which they previously held at 33 games from Nov. 10, 2006 to Nov. 10, 2007. This season, the Dutchwomen are 0-26-6 and 0-17-3 in ECAC Hockey play. Union is currently riding a six-game losing streak, their third losing streak of at least six games this season. Kathryn Tomaselli leads the Dutchwomen with seven goals and 10 point, the only player to record double digit points. Jacyn Reeves is second on the team with five goals and eight points on the season while Lizzy Otten is the leading defenseman with five assists and seven points. Overall, the Dutchwomen have scored 23 goals in 32 games, an average of 0.72 per game. Despite a winless record, freshman goaltender Melissa Black has played well in goal, sporting a 2.61 GAA and .934 save percentage as she faces an average of nearly 35 shots per game. Black has made 1,042 saves on the season. Special teams have struggled for Union, with the power play coming into the weekend at 6.4 percent (6 for 94) while the penalty kill is not much better at 77.3 percent (68 for 88).
All-Time Against Rensselaer
Despite a tie in their first matchup this season, the Bobcats have been very successful as of late against the Engineers going 8-1-1 in the last 10 games dating back to Feb. 11, 2011. Prior to that game, the Bobcats had won only three games against the Engineers. Neither team could tally a goal in their first meeting of the season, skating to a 0-0 tie at Houston Field House. The Bobcats outshot the Engineers, 40-15 in the contest but could not crack the scoresheet.
Scouting the Engineers
The Engineers turned their season around since tying the Bobcats back in January, currently seventh in ECAC Hockey with a 10-14-6 record, 8-8-4 in conference play. Senior Alexa Gruschow is the leading scorer for Rensselaer with 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points. Mari Mankey is second on the team with 18 points due to a team-leading 13 assists. Katie Rooney is second on the team with 11 goals while defenseman Hannah Behounek is the leading blue-liner with three goals and eight assists for 11 points. Freshman goaltender Lovisa Selander has seen the vast majority of playing time, going 9-13-6 with four shutouts. She has a 2.04 GAA and .936 save percentage thanks to 837 saves and 57 goals allowed. The Engineers have done a great job staying out of the box, averaging 6.1 penalty minutes per game, one of the fewest in the country. Rensselaer has killed off penalties 82.1 percent of the time, going 69 for 84 while the power play has struggled mightily at 8.5 percent, scoring 10 power-play goals in 118 chances.

Bobcats in the Polls
For the 19th consecutive week this season, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, ranking fourth for a program record 10th consecutive week. The Bobcats have been ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Poll for 64 consecutive weeks. Once again, Quinnipiac is one of two schools in the country to have both its men's and women's ice hockey teams ranked in the top five of both polls, joined by Boston College who's men's team is ranked No. 2 and the women's team is No. 1.
Bobcats in the PairWise
Quinnipiac has continued to retain its solid position at the No. 4 spot in the PairWise rankings for the past two months, nestled between Minnesota at No. 3 and Clarkson at No. 5. With an .855 winning percentage, the Bobcats have the fourth highest winning percentage while its RPI of .6286 is higher than Clarkson's, giving the Bobcats some breathing room. In strong playoff position from ECAC Hockey is Quinnipiac (No. 4), Clarkson (No. 5) and Princeton (No. 7) while Colgate (No. 9) and Harvard (No. 11) are on the outside looking in.
Not in my Zone
Quinnipiac is among the best in the country in numerous statistics, but are currently allowing the fewest shots on goal in the country with 517 allowed in 29 games, which is 16 fewer than Wisconsin who is in second place.
Other National Stats
Nationally, the Bobcats rank in the top five of numerous categories. From a defensive standpoint, the Bobcats are second in the country in goals against average at 0.97, only trailing Wisconsin who has a 0.57 GAA. The Bobcats are also second in the country in shots on goal allowed per game at 17.83, a mere .06 behind Wisconsin who leads the country at 17.77. Quinnipiac's overall shots allowed total of 570 is also second in the country, just 12 shots more the Wisconsin has allowed this season. Special teams have also been a strength this season, with the Bobcats power play ranked third in the country at 26.1 percent and the penalty kill ranked third at 92.0 percent.
Improved Power Play
The power play this season has become a big strength for the Bobcats as they are third in the country and first in ECAC Hockey at 26.1 percent. Since Christmas break, the power play has been even better, clicking at a rate of 35.3 percent which is second behind Minnesota. The Bobcats have scored a power-play goal in nine of their last 10 games since Jan. 9 after having a streak of eight straight games with a power-play goal come to an end against St. Lawrence on Feb. 12.
Playoffs?
The Bobcats need just one point this weekend against Union and Rensselaer to clinch their first regular season conference championship title in program history. Quinnipiac has 32 points in league play thanks to a 14-2-4 record, just one win shy of their most conference wins in a single season in program history.
Home Cookin'
The Bobcats have some of the best home numbers in ECAC Hockey, led by their .875 winning percentage and are the only team in the conference to not have a loss with a 12-0-4 record. Quinnipiac is one of four schools in the country that have yet to record a loss at home. Over the past three seasons, the Bobcats have compiled a 39-4-10 record for an .830 winning percentage.
Class of 2016
The Bobcats' current senior class, as a whole, has been one of the best in program history. These seniors are the winningest senior class in program history with 92 wins and counting. They were a part of the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance, reached the No. 3 national ranking last season and are on pace to have the most wins in a single season in program history.
Nicole Kosta
After missing the 2013-14 season due to an injury, Kosta was adopted by the Class of 2016 so she could use her remaining two years of eligibility. Kosta's name is all over the Quinnipiac record books with the second most points in program history (116), second most assists (78) and she is tied for the fifth most goals with 38. She has been a prolific player throughout her career, seasons with 39 points and 33 points, two totals that rank in the top 10 in program history.
Cydney Roesler
This year's captain, Cydney Roesler has been one of the best defenseman in program history. She is just the fourth defenseman at Quinnipiac to record 50 points in a career, and 20th overall, tallying 51 points. Roesler was unanimously voted as the 13th captain in program history by her teammates after serving as an assistant captain last season.
Kristen Tamberg
Kristen Tamberg has been having a breakout senior year for the Bobcats, setting career-highs with three goals, 15 assists and 18 points, looking to become the first defenseman to record a 20 point season since Regan Boulton tallied 30 in 2012-13. In her career, Tamberg has five goals and 39 assists for 44 points, with her 39 assists tied for eighth all-time. Last season, Tamberg was named to the ECAC Hockey Commissioner's, recognizing one student-athlete from each time with a GPA above 3.75. Tamberg has played in all 142 games in her career, with a chance of breaking the program record for games played.
Nicole Connery
Another player having a breakout season, Nicole Connery has already tied her career-high for points in a season with 27 and set a new career-high with 18 points. Connery is tied for third in program history with 54 assists while her 38 goals are tied for fifth and her 92 points are fourth. Connery is two goals away from becoming the second player in program history to record 40 or more goals and assists in a career.
Nicole Brown
Nicole Brown, just like her fellow seniors, is having one of the best seasons of her career, already netting a career-high 19 points with a career-high 14 assists. Brown became the 22nd player in program history to record 50 points as she comes into her senior weekend with 60 career points. Brown's 43 assists are seventh in program history. Brown is tied with Tamberg for the most games played on the active roster with 142, and a chance to break the program record of 147 games played.
Lindsey West
Brown's teammate since before Quinnipiac, Lindsey West has been an invaluable member of the defense for the past three seasons, tallying 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists. Last season, West set a career-high with four goals and six assists for 10 points. This season, West has blocked a career-high 30 shots while playing in all 31 games.
ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
Melissa Samoskevich was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season after another solid weekend for the Bobcats. She led all league freshman with two goals, including one on the power play, and three points.
20/20 Vision
Taylar Cianfarano picked up two assists over the weekend to give her 20 assists on the season and 43 points, recording some of the best stats in a single season in program history. Cianfarano is the second player in program history to record 20 goals and 20 assists in a single season, joining Kelly Babstock who achieved it twice in her career during the 2010-11 and 2012-13 season. Cianfarno's 43 points are the fourth most by a Bobcats in program history.
Sweet 16 Goals
Melissa Samoskevich's rookie season is one of the best freshman seasons in program history as her 31 points are ranked third behind Kelly Babstock's 59 points in 2010-11 and Nicole Kosta's 33 in 2011-12. Samoskevich has 16 goals which rank second to Babstock and her 15 assists are third by a freshman in program history. Among ECAC Hockey freshman, Samoskevich has been one of the best with a league-leading 16 goals and her 31 points are second.
Four Point Play
Emma Woods tied the her season-high this season with four points over the weekend on two goals and two assists leading to a nomination for ECAC Hockey Player of the Week. Woods' four points also gave her 29 on the season, setting a new single-season career-high. Woods also has 21 assists this season, second most in ECAC Hockey and the eighth most in a season in program history.
The One with the Saves
With a season-high 51 combined saves between the two games, Sydney Rossman picked up her 24th win of the season and 13th shutout to lead the Bobcats to a 1-0-1 weekend. Rossman currently leads the conference in wins, shutouts, GAA (0.95) save percentage (.947) and has allowed the fewest goals with 30. Nationally, Rossman is second in shutouts, GAA and save percentage while her 24 wins rank third.
