HAMDEN, Conn. - Former Quinnipiac baseball standout Vincent Guglietti has signed a professional contract with the River City Rascals of the Frontier League. The first baseman will report to spring training in Missouri at the end of April.
The Rascals are Guglietti's fourth professional team, third since he graduated Quinnipiac in May of 2015. Most recently, he played for the Gateway Grizzlies – also a Frontier League team – last summer.
"I'm excited, I'm definitely looking forward to getting out there again," Guglietti told QuinnipiacBobcats.com. "I learned a lot last year in my time in the Frontier League. It feels pretty good to get another chance to play at that level."
In his senior season with the Bobcats in 2015, Guglietti led the team in batting average (.330), on base percentage (.414), slugging percentage (.589), runs (43), triples (3), home runs (10), RBIs (47), and walks (27). He was named to the All-MAAC First Team, the MAAC All-Tournament team, the NEIBA All-New England Second Team and to the ACBA All-Northeast Second Team.
Guglietti hit .309 for his career at Quinnipiac, with a .376 on base percentage and a .464 slugging percentage. He owns the program record for doubles (49), he's fourth in program history in hits (228), and fifth in program history in RBI's (132). He slugged 18 home runs in his four years as a Bobcat.
"I learned a lot about myself as a player at Quinnipiac. When Skip [Gooley] was the head coach, the biggest thing that stuck with me was that baseball was always about the next step," Guglietti said. "If something doesn't go your way, you always just look forward to the next one."
"Coach [John] Delaney taught me to just outwork everyone. Put in the work each day and don't let anyone take you for granted."
Guglietti and the River City Rascals open up the 2017 season in May.
