
Five Different Goal Scorers Lead No. 4/4 QU Women's Ice Hockey Past Union, 5-0

Schenectady, New York – Five different players scored goals for the nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team Saturday night at Messa Rink to propel the Bobcats to a 5-0 victory over the Union Dutchwomen and extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games.
Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal in the first period while Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) and Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) added goals in the second period for the Bobcats. Meghan Turner (Bedford, New York) and Taylar Cianfarano netted third period goals to insure the Bobcats 17th win of the season
Quinnipiac picked up its ECAC Hockey-leading 10th league-win of the season to improve to 17-1-4 (10-1-3 ECAC Hockey) while the Dutchwomen extended their winless streak to 38 games as their record fell to 0-16-5 (0-8-2 ECAC Hockey).
Goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) recorded her second consecutive shutout for the Bobcats, recording 13 saves in the win. Rossman's shutout was her 10th of the season, the second most in a single-season in program history and most in ECAC Hockey this year. Her shutout also ties Wisconsin's Ann-Renee Desbiens for the most shutouts in the country this season. Rossman ran her latest shutout streak to 165:12 dating back to the Bobcats win against Brown on Jan. 2. She has allowed just one goal in the past five games.
The Bobcats recorded 40 or more shots for the second straight game as they outshot the Dutchwomen 53-13 in the victory. The Bobcats 53 shots on goal is the most in a game this season after putting up 51 shots on the Brown Bears on Jan. 2.
In addition to her fourth goal of the season, Brown also added an assist for her fourth two-point game of the season. It was also the sixth time in her career in which she's recorded two points in a game. Brown's game-winning goal was her fourth goal of the season and second game-winner.
Connery kept up her strong offensive season with a goal and an assist for her seventh goal and 13th assist for the season for 20 points. Connery's 20 points are the second most she's scored in a season in her career after recording her seventh multiple-point game of the season.
Kosta kept one goal ahead of Connery on the season with her eighth while netting her 15th point. With 37 goals in her career, Kosta is now in sole possession of fifth on the all-time Quinnipiac goal-scoring list.
Turner's power play goal was her fifth of the season to tie her single-season career-high from her freshman season. The power play strike was her first power play goal of the season for the Bobcats.
Cianfarano recorded her league-leading 19th goal of the season on Saturday in the victory, extending her prolific sophomore season. The goal was Cianfarano's 33rd point of the season to give her 64 in her young career.
Kristen Tamberg (North Toronto, Ontario) added a pair of assists to record her second two-assist game in the last three games. It was also Tamberg's third two-point game of the season.
Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) also recorded a pair of assists for her 12th and 13th assists of the season Saturday afternoon to move into third on the team. Samoskevich's assists also give her 23 points on the season, second on the team to Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) and second in ECAC Hockey.
Shannon Cherpak (Enfield, Connecticut) picked up her first assist of the season and third of her career. Lindsey West (Ajax, Ontario) also picked up an assist in the win for the Bobcats, her third of the season and fifth point.
Brown netted the Bobcats first goal of the game with 8:01 left to play in the first period to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Samoskevich hopped on the ice after a line change and collected the puck at the red line before skating it down to the right corner. Samoskevich then fired a centering feed for Brown, but the puck missed Brown's stick and bounced out to Tamberg at the right point off a Union defenseman. Tamberg fired a shot on Union netminder Melissa Black which was initially saved but the rebound trickled behind her and Brown crashed on the crease to knock home the puck.
Connery doubled the Bobcats lead with 3:30 to play in the second period with her first goal of the weekend. After working the puck around the offensive zone, Tamberg controlled the puck at the right point where she shifted the puck to Cherpak at the left point. Cherpak threw a shot on net where it was redirected by Connery on top of the crease to put it past Black for the goal.
With 29.6 seconds to play in the second period, the Bobcats added a four-on-four even strength goal to make it 3-0. After Taryn Baumgardt had a shot blocked, Union attempted to clear the puck out of the zone but West knocked down the puck at the point. West then found Kosta on the left wing, where she skated the puck into the high slot before bouncing off a Union defender and past Black for the goal.
Turner kept up the offensive attack in the third period with her first power play goal of the season to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead with 17:15 left. After a faceoff in the Bobcats offensive zone, Turner fired a shot wide and Samoskevich collected the rebound on the right boards. She then skated the puck up to the point before dropping the pass off for Brown. Brown shot the puck right at Turner in front of Black, who redirected it past the Union netminder for the goal.
Cianfarano sealed the deal with 30.1 seconds left in regulation to give the Bobcats a 5-0 lead. Cianfarano got the puck in the defensive end out of a battle in the corner where she hit Connery with a pass at the blue line. Connery skated the puck all the way into the offensive zone where she attempted to feed the puck to Cianfarano streaking through the zone but the puck hit a Union defender and bounced to Woods to the right of the goal. Woods then hit Cianfarano with a pass on the back door to for the final goal of the night,
