HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac's Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) became the 38^th player in program history to reach 100 career points while Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) tallied his NCAA-leading and program record seventh shutout of the season as the No. 1/2 Bobcats topped Union, 5-0, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.

With the win, Quinnipiac improved to 18-1-3 overall and 9-0-2 in ECAC Hockey play while Union dropped to 9-7-4 and 2-5-1 ECAC Hockey action.

St. Denis became the 24^th player at the NCAA Division I level to reach 100 career points with two goals and an assist in the Bobcats' league win. St. Denis now has 11 goals and 14 assists for a team-high 25 points for the year and 49 goals and 52 assists for his career. Garteig's seventh shutout of the season breaks his single-season record of six set as a sophomore in 2013-14. It also gives him the most among all Division I goalies and 18 for his career.

Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) and Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) each had a goal and an assist in the Bobcats' win while Thomas Aldworth (Keller, Texas) scored his first goal in 14 games. For Clifton, his goal in the second period was his team-leading 13th of the season, while he has also scored a league-best 10 goals in 11 ECAC Hockey games to date.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead on Landon Smith's sixth goal of the season. St. Denis picked up a loose puck along the boards after knocking down an attempted clear by Union. Looking away from the play, St. Denis dropped a pass between his legs to Tim Clifton who carried it along the goal line and placed it on Smith's stick for the one-timer from the slot.

Minutes later, Connor Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) won a battle in the corner deep in Quinnipiac's zone and sent the puck up-ice off the boards to Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) in the neutral zone. MacMaster stepped around a defender and found he and Aldworth on a two-on-one breakaway. MacMaster skated into the face-off circle to the right of Alex Sakellaropoulos and zipped the puck across the crease to Aldworth for the one-timer.

Midway through the second period, Quinnipiac was hit with a pair of penalties, leaving the Bobcats skating shorthanded, three-on-five. Union's Jeff Taylor took a pass just below the blue line at the point and lost and edge. Alex Miner-Barron (Glendora, California) picked up the loose puck and took off up-ice, skating deep into the Union zone before firing a shot off of Sakallaropoulos' right leg pad and leaving a rebound for Tim Clifton to clean-up. Clifton's team-leading 13^th goal of the year gave the Bobcats a three-goal lead through two periods.

Early in the third, St. Denis scored on a wrister from the half walls for his 100^th career point. Landon Smith won the puck in the corner and sent it to Devon Toews (Abbotsford, British Columbia) at the point. Toews then fed it back down to St. Denis who sent a shot on goal. St. Denis added his second of the game to give him a team-best three two-goal games this season. He has now scored a team-best eight goals at home, while his 13 points at High Point Solutions Arena also leads the Bobcats.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 9 when it takes on No. 4/5 Harvard in the "Rivalry on Ice" game at the "World's Most Famous Arena" Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m.
