
QU Women's Tennis Travels to Army West Point for West Point Invite

THE WEST WING
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team hits the road for their third tournament of the fall this weekend as they will compete in the West Point Invite at the Malek Tennis Center on the Army West Point Campus. The tournament begins on Friday, Sept. 25 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 27 with competition beginning each day at 9 A.M.
LOTS OF COMPANY
Including the Bobcats, 22 teams have been invited to the West Point Invite with teams ranging in location across the country from Bryant University in Rhode Island to Akron University in Ohio.
AT THE WEST POINT INVITE
Last season, Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) reached the Flight #2 Consolation finals as the last Bobcat standing at the West Point Invite. Despite losing in the main draw, Young picked up three victories in the consolation round with wins against players from Army, UConn and Lehigh.
FIRST FINALS APPEARANCE
Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) made their first finals appearance of the season at the Quinnipiac Invitational last weekend, going 3-1 in doubles place on their way to the finals. Horton and Lohaphaisan faced opponents from Drexel, UConn, Providence and Sacred Heart.
GREAT START
Lohaphaisan has gotten off to a fast start in her collegiate career, already racking up a team-high eight victories on her way to an 8-3 record. Lohaphaisan is 7-2 in doubles play through the first two tournaments of the season while she has compiled a 1-1 mark in singles play. All seven of Lohaphaisan's doubles victories have come with Horton.
DOUBLE DARE
All nine of Horton's matches have come in doubles play this season, teaming up with Lohaphaisan to go 7-2 in competition. Horton won 26 doubles matches through her first two seasons as a Bobcat and through the first two tournaments of the 2015-16 season, Horton is 48-21, including 33-10 in doubles play.
A WHOLE NEW WORLD
Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) has gotten off to a solid start to her collegiate career, going 5-4 with a 4-3 mark in doubles play. Mircea most recently teamed up with Jennifer White from Drexel at the Quinnipiac Invitational, going 1-1 after a 3-2 weekend at the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival.
FOUR'S ARE WILD
Two Quinnipiac women's tennis freshman have accumulated four wins this season with Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) taking home the honors. Both Lu and Young have picked up a win in singles and three wins in doubles through the first two tournaments of the season.
ACTIVE LEADERS
Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, California) Sydney Young are the two winningest members of the program on the active roster. Young is the active leader in wins on the team with 80 through two seasons while Dzulynsky is second on the active roster with 78 wins. Despite have the most active singles wins on the team with 34, Young is second to Dzulynsky in doubles wins, with Dzulynsky taking the 48-46 advantage.
WHO'S NEXT?
Following the West Point Invite, the Bobcats have four dual matches on tap from Oct. 6 to Oct. 16. The Quinnipiac women's tennis team will host the UConn Huskies and Sacred Heart Pioneers on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7, respectively, with each match beginning at 3 P.M.
