THE COMPETITION
There is a new flair to the Connecticut State Championships this year as Harvard and Marist have been invited in addition to Quinnipiac, Yale, Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Hartford.
HIGH IN THE ALPS
Sophomore Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) had an impressive opening weekend for the Bobcats, going 5-1 at the Bowdoin Invitational to lead the team in victories through the first weekend of the season. As a freshman, Alper had won the first 11 matches of his career and finished with 28 wins, putting him in a good position through the first weekend of the season.
ROSE BOWL
Senior captain Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) posted an impressive season of his own, going 4-2 for the Bobcats while in Brunswick, Maine last season. Roser tied for second on the team in wins to finish out the Bowdoin Invitational and prepare for the Connecticut State Championships.
ROUSING WEEKEND
Another Bobcat sophomore, Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) had an impressive first weekend of the fall similar to his classmate Alper, as Rozenstein went 4-2 at the Bowdoin Invitational, going 2-1 in each singles and doubles. Rozenstein led all led all rookies last season with 34 victories, which also ranked third on the team.
FRESHMAN FREDDIE
Freshman Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) opened up his collegiate career with an impressive weekend at the Bowdoin Invitational. Zaretsky went 4-2 and won a big time match with one of the top to Marist players, Rudolf Kurz, on Saturday, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
SWEET SIXTEEN
The Bobcats won 16 matches overall at the Bowdoin Invitational to start off the season on a high note after reaching the MAAC Tournament for the first time in program history in 2014-15. It was an impressive three weekend win total for the Bobcats as they averaged just over five wins per day.
RECORD YEAR
Last season marked a big year for the Quinnipiac men's tennis program as the Bobcats qualified for their first MAAC Tournament in program history. Their 11 wins also marked the most for a Quinnipiac men's tennis team since the 2005-06 season when they recorded 13 on the way to a NCAA Tournament berth. The Bobcats also finished with 201 combined victories between the individual singles and doubles competition, marking the most victories in a season in program history. Of the 201 combined victories, the Bobcats won 143 singles matches, also a new program record.
DUAL LEADERSHIP
Roser and Ben Teicher (Kendall Park, New Jersey) have been named the captains of the Quinnipiac men's tennis team for the 2015-16 season. Roser had a breakout year in 2014-15 last season, picking up a career-high 29 wins, 19 singles wins and tied his career-high with 10 doubles wins. Teicher has been an impactful player on and off the court for the Bobcats, as he was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the second straight season.
