ORLANDO, Florida – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team split a doubleheader Monday as they defeated the Hampton Pirates, 6-1, in the second match of the day after falling to the Toledo Rockets, 6-1, in the first game during their first day of action on the spring break trip.
Throughout the day, the women's tennis team sported red Quinnipiac tennis shirts that said "I Wear Red for Alysha," in memory of Alysha Oliphant, the sister of sophomore Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta), who passed away in November.
The Bobcats cruised to their third win of the season Monday night with the 6-1 win over the Pirates with a strong showing in both singles and doubles as several players cruised to multiple victories. Quinnipiac is now 3-3 this season while Hampton drops to 0-4.
Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, New York) picked up three victories in the doubleheader to highlight the group of multiple winners against Hampton, as Ariana Launie (Milton, Massachusetts) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) also picked up two wins.
Launie moved within five wins of 100 for her career, as the senior's two wins moved her up to 95 career victories, good for third on the action roster. She is looking to join Raynor and Dassa as the active members of the 100-win club.
For Horton, it was her first singles victory of the season as she also picked up her second doubles victory of the season.
