
QU Baseball Takes Advantage of Key Doubles in 3-1 Victory over Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – Three different players recorded multi-hit games for the Bobcats, led by Scott Donaghue's (Marlboro, New Jersey) 2 for 4, two RBI performance Monday afternoon in a 3-1 MAAC victory over the Saint Peter's Peacocks at Caven Point.
John Bodenhamer (Maple Valley, Washington) put up his best game of the season as he went 3 for 4 with a double, a run and a RBI and Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Connecticut) went 2 for 3 with two runs and a walk. The Bobcats had nine hits in the contest as they push their record to 4-13 (2-1 MAAC) while the Peacocks fall to 1-11 (1-2 MAAC).
Donaghue extended his hitting streak to four games and also raised his season batting average to .300 with the 2 for 4 day at the plate. Bodenhamer has continued to reach base in every game he has recorded a plate appearance, extending the streak to seven games while extending his hitting streak to four games. Bodenhamer is 5 for 7 in his last seven at bats.
The Bobcats used five different pitchers in the second MAAC victory of the season. Justin Thomas (Enfield, Connecticut) picked up his second victory of the season after coming into the game in relief for starting pitcher Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, Massachusetts). Thomas (2-2) pitched four innings where he allowed just one run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
After two scoreless innings of relief from Gary Binkiewicz (Scotch Plains, New Jersey) and Matthew Lorenzetti (Marlboro, New Jersey), Robert Hitt (Suffield, Connecticut) pitched the ninth inning for his first career save.
The Bobcats and Peacocks were scoreless heading into the top of the fifth inning when the Bobcats put two runs on the board to take a 2-0 lead. Guglietti led off the inning with an opposite field to double in the left centerfield gap. Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Connecticut) grounded out to short to advance Guglietti to third base before Bodenhamer ripped a RBI double into right field, scoring Guglietti. With Bodenhamer standing on second base, Donaghue stepped to the plate and doubled to left field, scoring Bodenhamer.
Saint Peter's got one run back in the bottom of the fifth inning after a leadoff double from Spadaccini followed by a single from Henry to put runners on the corners. Spadaccini came home to score on when Kristofferse reached on a fielder's choice.
In the top of the seventh inning the Bobcats tacked on one more run to make it 3-1. Guglietti singled to left with one out in the inning and moved into scoring position on Iannotti's walk. Bodenhamer stepped to the dish and pulled a single to right field which loaded up the bases. Donaghue singled to bring home Guglietti and keep the bases loaded, but two straight outs ended the inning.
The Bobcats hit the road for two more non-conference games this week when they travel to New Britain, Connecticut to face the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at Balf-Savin Field at 3 P.M. followed by neutral site game against the Yale Bulldogs at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts on Wednesday at 7 P.M.
