CANTON, New York – The No. 5/5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey was shutout for the first time all season as the Bobcats fell 3-0 to the St. Lawrence Saints at Appleton Arena on Friday night.
St. Lawrence improved 18-9-4 (12-4-3 ECAC Hockey) with the victory while Quinnipiac dropped to 22-6-3 (13-4-3 ECAC).
The Bobcats were shutout for the first time since the ECAC Semifinals when they lost to the Clarkson Golden Knights 6-0 on March 8th, 2014.
Amanda Boulier finished with a goal and an assist for the Saints as the only Saint to have a multi-point game. Jessica Hon and Jackie Wand scored the other goals for the Saints, who scored a goal in each period of the game.
Carmen MacDonald recorded her third shutout of the season with a 20 save effort. Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) made 12 saves on 15 shots before giving way to Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) who made three saves in 19:52 of ice time, her first action between the pipes since Oct. 12 in a 1-1 tie at Penn State.
Quinnipiac used 11 third period shots to win the shot battle against St. Lawrence, 20-18, after getting outshot 10-2 in the first period.
Boulier put the Saints up 1-0 just 1:43 into the first period with a one-timer in the slot. Williams backhanded a pass along the left boards to Miller at the end line. Miller skated the puck along the end boards before centering the puck to Boulier to one-time the puck past Laden on the weak side.
The Saints took a 2-0 lead with 4:41 remaining in the second period on Hon's redirection right on top of the crease. St. Lawrence won a battle for the puck on the right side boards and pulled the puck out to Boulier at the right point. Boulier worked a point to point pass to Armstrong who fired a shot on goal that was redirected past Laden by Hon.
Just eight seconds into the third period, St. Lawrence took a 3-0 lead off Wands shot. Webster won the faceoff to start the period and fed the puck to Marchment on the right wing. Marchment wristed a centering feed to Wand who skated across the slot where her shot found the back of the net.
The Bobcats will return to action on Saturday when they travel down Route 11 to face the Clarkson Golden Knights at Cheel Arena with puck drop scheduled for 4 P.M.
