BOSTON, Massachusetts – Former Quinnipiac women's ice hockey forward Brittany Lyons has returned to the professional women's ice hockey ranks as she has signed a one-year contract with the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL).
"I'm so excited to be a part of the Boston Blades organization," Lyons said. "The team and the management are amazing. I've played hockey my whole life and I just couldn't stop. It's nice to be playing a sport I love in the city I grew up in!"
Lyons already has one game under her belt, appearing in the Blades' Nov. 1 game against the Calgary Inferno, falling 4-2. This season, the Blades are 1-5 after their most recent loss to the Inferno. Last season, the Boston Blades won the league's championship, the Clarkson Cup, with a 3-2 win over the Montreal Stars for their second title in three seasons
After graduating from Quinnipiac, Lyons signed a professional contract with the Neuberg Highlanders of the European Women's Hockey League (EWHL). Lyons was one of the top 10 players in the league as she scored 21 goals with seven assists for 28 points. Her 21 goals were fifth in the league while her 28 points were ninth overall.
"We're excited that Britt is continuing her playing career with the Blades," Quinnipiac women's ice hockey head coach Cassandra Turner said. "She brought a lot of passion to the ice in the Bobcat uniform and was an opportunistic scorer, particularly on the power play. I'm certain that her character and determination will be an asset to the Blades."
As a member of the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team, Lyons was a big part of the Bobcats' success as she ranks fourth in program history with 39 goals, 17th with 28 assists and eighth in points with 67. In her career, 10 of her 39 goals came on the power play, good for seventh in program history. In Lyons' senior season of 2012-13, she scored a career-high 16 goals, including seven power play goals, and tied her career-high of 22 points.
