
QU Men's Ice Hockey Ranked No. 3 in USCHO.com Poll, Move Up to No. 2 in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

HAMDEN, Connecticut – For the third consecutive week, the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll while the Bobcats moved back up to No. 2 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Poll, as released on Monday.
The Bobcats received six first place votes, their sixth straight week receiving at least one first place vote, and 920 points in the USCHO.com poll while they received 11 of the 34 first place votes with 472 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. Quinnipiac extended its unbeaten streak to 15 games to open up the 2015-16 season. Quinnipiac swept a home and home series with the Massachusetts Minutemen, winning the Nov. 27 matchup in Amherst, 4-1, before shutting out the Minutemen on Nov. 28, 1-0. The Bobcats 15 game unbeaten streak is the second longest unbeaten streak in program history, after going on a 21 game unbeaten streak in the 2012-13 season.
Quinnipiac is one of two schools in the country to have its men's and women's ice hockey teams ranked in the top four of the USCHO.com Poll, with the men's ice hockey team's No. 3 ranking and the women's ice hockey team ranked No. 4 in the women's poll. Boston College is the only other school to achieve the feat as their men's and women's teams are each ranked No. 2.
Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland) became the 37th player in program history and 23rd at the Division I level to join the 100-point club after picking up three points on Friday night at UMass. The Bobcats' sophomore reached 100 points via 54 goals and 46 assists in just 92 games. Anas' three-point game was his fourth of the season, the most among ECAC Hockey skaters as he leads the league with nine goals and 18 points.
Over the weekend, Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) picked up his 59th career victory to tie the program record for career victories, tied with Jamie Holden '05 and J.C. Wells '01. Garteig recorded his league-leading 13th win of the season and fourth shutout, and ranks second with a 1.28 GAA and .946 save percentage. The Bobcats' netminder stopped 45 of the 46 shots he faced, allowing just one goal over the weekend.
Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) and Alex Miner-Barron (Glendora, California) each had two-point games with a goal and an assist at UMass on Nov. 27 while Andrew Taverner (Edmonton, Alberta) and Scott Davidson (Trail, British Columbia) also added goals over the weekend.
The Bobcats are the highest ranked ECAC Hockey team, with Harvard (No. 7) and Yale (No. 10) also cracking the top 10 and St. Lawrence (No. 13) and Cornell (No. 15) breaking the top 20. Rensselaer and Clarkson each received votes in the USCHO.com poll as well. In the USA Today/USA Hockey Poll, the Bobcats are joined in the top 10 by ECAC Hockey foes Harvard (No. 8) and Yale (No. 10) while St. Lawrence (No. 13) and Cornell (No. 14) are also ranked in the top 15.
The No. 3/2 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team returns to action on Friday, Dec. 4 when they travel down Whitney Ave. to Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. to face the No. 10/10 Yale Bulldogs at 6:30 P.M. before hitting the road once again on Saturday, Dec. 5 when they face the Brown Bears at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island at 4 P.M.
