HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team swept all nine matches Saturday afternoon for their second consecutive 7-0 sweep with a victory over the Saint Peter's Peacocks in MAAC play.
With the win, the Bobcats finish off the fall season with a 4-0 (2-0 MAAC) record, including three straight 7-0 sweeps. The Bobcats have dropped just two individual matches in all four dual matches, posting their best fall record in program history. Saint Peter's falls to 0-3 (0-1 MAAC) with the loss.
Sophomores Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) reached the 50 career win mark with each winning a pair of matches on the afternoon. It was a particularly eventful day for van Biezen, as he tied his career-high for singles victories in a single-season with his 13th win.
Senior Luke Roser continued his eventful fall season as he picked up two more wins to move up to 96 career wins and improve his 2015-16 record to 22-5. Roser improved his doubles record to 14-1, including a 10-1 mark with freshman Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey).
The Bobcats secured the first point of the match rather quickly by winning the first two doubles matches and dropping just one game. Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) continue their strong play together as a doubles team with another victory, making quick work of Jonathon Paredes and Cuong Lam at No. 3 doubles, 6-0. Roser and Zaretsky finished their No. 2 doubles match not much longer after the No. 3 doubles match, as Roser and Zaretsky cruised past Douglas Nover and Gabriel Russotta, 6-1, to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the match. Rounding out doubles play at No. 1 doubles, Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and van Biezen teamed up once again and finished off the Peacocks' Daniil Ivanov and Jorge Rodriguez to sweep doubles, 6-4.
Singles play was much of the same for the Bobcats as they kept up their dominating play. In Kuwert's return to the court, he quickly defeated Paredes at No. 3 singles with a straight set sweep, 6-0, 6-0. Zaretsky settled in nicely at No. 2 singles as he dropped three games in the first set but amped up the pressure and cruised in the second set, defeating Rodriguez, 6-3, 6-0. Ezaka battled in the longest match of the day at No. 1 singles, winning the first set but falling in the second set before rebounding in the third to win, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
With the match victory clinched, the Bobcats continued to rack up the wins as van Biezen faced Nover at No. 4 singles and settled down for a strong second set to win, 6-4, 6-1. Alper and Roser were quick to finish off the match in style for the Bobcats, dropping just one game between the two Bobcats. At No. 5 singles, Alper cruised past Russotta, 6-1, 6-0, while Roser didn't drop a game in his straight set victory over Lam in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
With dual matches done for the fall season, the Bobcats just have the ITA Regionals remaining to be played at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. Ezaka and Zaretsky were selected in the main draw while Kuwert, Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) and van Biezen were selected to the qualifying round.
