HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team dominated the UConn Huskies, 6-1, on their way to the first victory of the season behind two individual victories each from Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey), Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey), Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) and Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California).
Several milestones were hit in the Bobcats (1-0, 0-0 MAAC) first dual match as Roser set a new career-high doubles wins in a single season with his 11th of the season to improve his doubles record to 11-1. The doubles win also put Roser at 40 career doubles wins and his win in singles put him at 50 career singles victories. Roser inched closer to the 100 win mark, finishing the day with 90 career wins.
Ezaka's victory in singles play was his fifth of the season to put his career singles win total up to 40 and he finished the afternoon at 78 career wins.
Also moving in on a new career high is Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) as his singles victory put him up to 10 this season, just three away from tying his freshman year total of 13.
In doubles play to open up the dual match season, the Bobcats took the doubles point by winning a pair of matches at No. 2 and 3 doubles. Ezaka and Alper were the first match done on the afternoon at No. 3 doubles, pairing up for the first time in their careers. The pairing worked, as they cruised past UConn's Jonathon Edwards and Justin Warren, 6-2. The only hiccup in doubles play came at No. 1 doubles as Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and van Biezen fell just short against Jacob Spreyer and Christopher Toner, 6-4.
In singles play, the Bobcats continued their dominance as they dropped just one match. Zaretsky had the most dominant singles performance of the afternoon at No. 2 singles as he cruised past Arnaud Valentin for the 6-2, 6-3 victory. Ezaka continued to play well at No. 1 singles after a strong performance at the UConn Invitational, downing Toner, 6-4, 7-6 (2), for the win. At No. 4 singles, van Biezen continued his strong play to open up the 2015-16 season as he defeated Parker Goldstein in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
