
Uden Johansson, Fritz-Ward and Darkangelo Score For No. 5/5 Bobcats In 3-0 Win Against Brown

HAMDEN, Conn. – Nationally-ranked No. 5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey defeated Brown, 3-0, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The win is Quinnipiac's fourth straight, pushing it to 17-1-3 overall and 10-1-2 in ECAC Hockey play. Brown drops to 4-12-0 overall, including a 1-8-0 mark in the league.
Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden), Morgan Fritz-Ward (Mason City, Iowa) and Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) all scored for Quinnipiac, while Fritz-Ward and Darkangelo each assisted on the others' goal. Kristen Tamberg (North Toronto, Ontario), Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario), Lindsey West (Ajax, Ontario) and Cydney Roessler (Stittsville, Ontario) also picked up assists in the Bobcats' win.
In goal, Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) recorded her NCAA Division I leading 11th shutout of the season after turning back all nine of Brown's shots-on-goal. She improves to 17-1-2 on the year.
Uden Johansson's goal gave her 40 for her career, to go along with 48 career assists, making her the third player in program history to scored 40 goals and the second player, joining Kelly Babstock '15 (95) and Elyse Cole '09 (43). She is also the second player to score 40 goals and assist on 40 more. The other was Babstock, who tallied 103 assists to go-along with her 95 career goals. Fritz-Ward now boasts a four-game point streak highlighted by two goals and five assists for seven points.
Just under five minutes into the second period, Uden Johansson scored her eighth goal of the season and 40th of her career to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead. Kosta held the puck along the boards deep in the Bears' zone before flipping the puck to West at the point. West wound-up and fired on goal, but it was blocked Brown's Brittany Moorehead. The puck trickled across the Brown defensive where it found Uden Johansson's stick. The Bobcats' senior captain wristed a shot to the far post to beat Brown goalie Monica Elvin to give QU a 1-0 lead.
Moments later it was Fritz-Ward with her fourth goal of the season. On the power play, the Bobcats worked it around the Brown zone before Cydney Roessler (Stittsville, Ontario) fired a shot on goal that found its way through traffic to the crease where Fritz-Ward was waiting to tip the shot and give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Midway through the third, Darkangelo scored her eighth goal of the year to give Quinnipiac a three-goal lead. Tamberg held the puck at the point before slipping the puck across the ice to Fritz-Ward. Fritz-Ward then sent a centering pass across Brown's crease where Darkangelo was waiting for the tip-in as the Bobcats grabbed a 3-0 lead.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 10 when it hosts Yale for an ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center at 3 p.m.
