ALBANY, New York – No. 5/5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey freshman forward Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) has been named ECAC Hockey Women's Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
This marks the third Rookie of the Week award for Cianfarano, who also earned the honor on Oct. 21 and Dec. 2. It is the eighth weekly award a Bobcat has won so far this season as Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) and Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) each won one player of the week award and Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) won goaltender of the week three times.
Cianfarano scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season with the only goal of the game against Rensselaer in a 1-0 shutout victory. Cianfarano is tied for the most goals scored by a rookie in the country with Wisconsin's Annie Pankowski and St. Lawrence's Kennedy Marchment. The game-winner was also Cianfarano's fifth game-winning goal of the season, tied with Minnesota's Dani Cameranesi for the most in the country.
So far this season, Cianfarano leads the Bobcats with 17 points on nine goals and eight assists. Cianfarano's eight assists are tied for third on the team with Morgan Fritz-Ward (Mason City, Iowa).
The Bobcats return to the ice for the first home game in 45 days Tuesday night when they host the Princeton Tigers in an ECAC Hockey showdown at High Point Solutions Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7 P.M.
