HAMDEN, Connecticut – Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) recorded the 100th point of her career with an assist in No. 5/5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey's 2-1 overtime loss to the No. 4/4 Harvard Crimson Friday night at High Point Solutions Arena.
Friday night the Bobcats also started their fundraising efforts for "Do It For Daron." The Bobcats will raise money and awareness for . D.I.F.D., an organization seeking to raise awareness for mental health.
Darkangelo's assist was her ninth of the season for the Bobcats and 18th point this year. Darkangelo has now recorded 58 points in a Quinnipiac uniform after tallying 42 as a member of the Syracuse Orange as a freshman and sophomore.
Darkangelo is just the second Quinnipiac women's ice hockey player to join the 100-point club, following Kelly Babstock '14, who finished her career with 203 points.
Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded her seventh goal of the season off Darkangelo's assist as Kosta increased her career point total to 94 as she eyes the 100 point mark. Also nearing her 100th career point is Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden), who recorded her 92nd career point with her 12th assist of the season on Kosta's goal.
Sydney Daniels scored the game-winning goal for the Crimson and picked up another assist for a two-point night while Kalley Armstrong scored the game-tying goal.
Harvard improves to 15-3-2 (12-2-1 ECAC Hockey) while Quinnipiac drops to 20-4-3 (11-2-2 ECAC Hockey) with the loss.
The Bobcats outshot the Crimson 27-18 in the battle between two of the top five teams in the country.
Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) recorded 16 saves on 18 shots between the pipes for the Bobcats while Emerance Maschmeyer stopped 26 of the 27 shots she faced.
Kosta gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead 2:36 into the second period against the Crimson. Kosta initially shot the puck in the slot where it was saved by Maschmeyer. The puck came loose in the crease, but Uden Johansson and Darkangelo both crashed the net. Uden Johansson pulled the puck out and Darkangelo backhanded a pass to Kosta where she rifled a shot from the left faceoff circle past Maschmeyer.
Armstrong tied the game for Harvard 1-1 with 5:16 remaining in the second period for the Crimson. The Bobcats lost control of the puck behind their own net. Daniels came up with the puck and passed the puck out front to Armstrong, whose shot went over Laden's blocker shoulder for the goal.
Daniels netted the game-winner for the Crimson with 1:34 remaining in overtime after Daniels worked the puck behind Quinnipiac's net to Lyndsey Fry. Fry then found Sarah Edney in the left faceoff circle with a pass where Edney's shot deflected of Daniels skate at the top of the crease and past Laden for the game-winning goal.
It was just the first overtime loss of the season for the Bobcats, who are now 1-1-3 in the extra frame.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday afternoon when they take on ECAC foe Dartmouth Big Green at High Point Solutions Arena with puck drop set for 4 P.M.
