
Chelsea Laden Becomes First Goaltender of 2014-15 to Reach 20 wins in No. 4/4 QU Women's Ice Hockey's 3-0 Shutout of Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) became the first NCAA goaltender of the 2014-15 season to record her 20th victory of the season as the No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team blanked the Robert Morris Colonials 3-0 Saturday afternoon at 84 Lumber Arena.
The shutout was also Laden's NCAA-leading 12th shutout of the season as she saved all 20 shots she faced between the pipes. Laden surpassed her own personal best for wins in a season of 19 with the win, and now sits in second place in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history for wins in a season with 20, just one win behind former goaltender Victoria Vigilanti's record of 21 set in the 2010-11 season.
As a team, the Bobcats became just the third team in women's ice hockey to record 20 wins this season, following No. 1/1 Boston College and No. 2/2 Minnesota to achieve the feat. The sweep of the Colonials is also the seventh weekend sweep of the season and extends the team's winning streak to seven games.
Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) recorded two assists as she reached 99 career points in the victory, bringing her ever so close to the exclusive 100-point club.
Darkangelo assisted the first two goals of the game as she tallied the 43rd and 44th assists of her career to approach 99 career points. With the two assists, Darkangelo now has a five-game point streak in which she has recorded six points on the strength of one goal and five assists.
Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded her seventh multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist in the game. The goal was Kosta's fifth of the season while she also tallied her 15th assist to give her 20 points on the year. Kosta finishes the weekend with 92 career points.
Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) also recorded a two point game, as she scored a goal in her third consecutive game to extend her NCAA-Rookie and team-lead in goals to 14 on the season. Cianfarano also recorded an assist to add to her team-best 24 points, with 14 goals and 10 assists. Cianfarano has scored 7 points in her last three games, including two points in each game against Robert Morris for a four-point weekend.
Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) also picked up an assist for the Bobcats for her 11th helper of the season to give her 50 career assists in a Bobcat uniform. Uden Johansson also finishes the weekend with 91 total career points.
Emma Woods scored her first goal since Jan. 6 against Princeton with her second power play goal of the season. The goal goes down as Woods' ninth goal of the season. Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) picked up her 12th assist of the season on Woods' goal.
The Bobcats finished the game 1-3 on the power play while the Colonials were 0-2 with the man advantage. Quinnipiac has now scored a power play goal in four consecutive games.
Cianfarano put the Bobcats ahead 1-0 midway through the second period minutes after the Bobcats killed off a Colonials power play. Kosta skated the puck from the red line on the right side of the ice around the boards into the left corner where she backhanded a pass to Darkangelo trailing behind her. Darkangelo fired a pass into the slot where Cianfarano camped on the right side a roofed her shot high, glove side past Dodds.
Late in the second period, Kosta added her second point of the game with a goal to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Uden Johansson gained control of the puck behind the end line in the offensive zone and passed the puck to Darkangelo directly behind the goal. Darkangelo shifted the puck back to Uden Johansson at the bottom of the left faceoff circle where she quickly backhanded the puck to Kosta open in the slot. Kosta dove at the puck and poked it high glove side for the Bobcats second goal of the period.
Woods scored the Bobcats lone power play goal with 9:05 remaining in the third period. Quinnipiac controlled the puck along the blue line before Connery received a pass in the right faceoff circle. Connery ripped a shot that was kicked out by Dodds but Woods was waiting on the back door to bang home the puck for the goal.
The Bobcats return to action with a mid-week, top ten battle with the No. 6/6 Boston University Terriers at Walter Brown Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 21 with puck drop scheduled for 7 P.M.
