Quinnipiac women's ice hockey junior Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) scored twice and freshman Taylar Cianfarano (Oswegeo, New York) had a goal and two assists to lead seven different scorers as the Bobcats topped the Chinese National Team, 8-0, in an exhibition match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
Quinnipiac poured on six goals in the first period, before scoring one goal in the second and third. Connery was one of seven different Quinnipiac players to find the back of the net for the Bobcats. Meghan Turner (Beford, New Hampshire), Olivia Agostinelli (Framingham, Massachusetts), Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden), Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) and Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) all scored for Quinnipiac. Agostinelli and Uden Johansson also had assists in the win.
The last time the Bobcats scored eight goals in a game was a regular season victory last season over the RIT Tigers, winning 8-0.
It was all Quinnipiac right from the start against the Chinese National Team as Turner put the Bobcats on the board just 5:52 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Cydney Roesler (Stittsville, Ontario) took the initial shot from the point before it was saved by China's Yuqing Wang but Turner tapped home the kicked out rebound.
A minute and a half later, Cianfarano scored her first goal as a Bobcat in the exhibition game, also on a rebound. Agostinelli took a shot from the side of the net where Wang once again kicked out a rebound and Cianfarano was right there to send in the back of the net to give Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead.
Agostinelli scored a goal of her own just 20 seconds later when she skated up the right side and towards the end line. Agostinelli put the puck on net and it went off Wang's skate and into the back of the net.
Just before the midway mark of the first period Uden Johansson scored to give the Bobcats a 4-0 on a great pass from Cianfarano in the left to Uden Johansson to the left of the slot where she fired a shot through the five-hole.
Connery scored the next two goals for the Bobcats to close out the scoring for the first period. Connery's first goal came off a pass from Darkangelo across the slot to Connery on the left of the goal to tap the puck home for a 5-0 lead. Nearly two minutes later, Connery added her second goal as she skated over the blue line into the offensive zone and slap a shot passed the blocker of new China goalkeeper Jiaqi Yang.
Kosta added a goal for the Bobcats with under four minutes remaining in the second period to give Quinnipiac a 7-0 lead. Uden Johansson passed the puck to Cianfarano next to the slot who then sent it across the face of the goal for Kosta to one-time the puck home.
Darkangelo wrapped up the scoring for Quinnipiac 7:28 into the third period when Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) sent her a pass and she skated in on goal to rip a shot off the goalkeeper and into the net.
All three goaltenders for the Bobcats saw action in the win as Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) record two saves in the first period, Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) had four saves in the second and Rachel Myette (Duxbury, Massachusetts) stopped one shot in the third.
The Bobcats return to action next Saturday when they play in the Blue vs. Gold exhibition game with puck drop scheduled for 4 P.M. at High Point Solutions Arena.
