Providence, R.I. -After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the match against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knghts it looked like Quinnipiac was on the the verge of their second victory of the season. Despite the lead and an early 4-1 lead in the third set, the Bobcats could not hold off a resilient FDU squad that stormed all the way back for a 3-2 victory in the first game in the Friar Classic Tournament.
After winning the first sets 25-23 and 25-19, the Bobcats fell in the final three sets dropping them by the scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 15-7. In the third set, FDU would go on a 22-8 run after the Bobcats took an early lead. Things didn't get much better in the fourth match when FDU would storm out of the gates to take a 12-1 lead. Despite the Bobcats outscoring the Knights for the rest of the match, 16-13, the lead was too great for Quinnipiac to overcome. The final set was much of the same story as the Knights got out in front early and were able to hold on.
Sophomore Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska) led the team with seven blocks while adding six kills. Leigh has come on strong over the past week and looks ready to be a presence around the net once again. Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Ind.) continues her fine sophomore campaign by once again leading Quinnipiac in kills with 10. Another sophmore, Emma Ogden (Crown Point, Ind.) led the team with 36 assists while adding solid defense with 11 digs. Fellow sophomore Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.) led the team with 13 digs for the game.
While the sophomore class did play a pivotal role, the freshman class also made some noise. Jamie Termotto (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Kloss (Munster, Ind.) both had 8 kills each.
The Bobcats will look to rebound tomorrow as they wrap up the Friar Classic with a doubleheader against Morgan State at 12:30 and the Providence Friars at 4:30.
