RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats dropped their first match of the weekend to the Manhattan Jaspers by the score of 3-1. For the season, the Bobcats have now dropped both meetings with the Jaspers this season and will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Iona Gaels at 1 p.m.
Quinnipiac started off well in the match taking the first set by the score of 25-21. Freshman Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) helped the Bobcats take the first set with the final two kills in the set to give the Bobcats an early lead. However, Quinnipiac was unable to capitalize on their early momentum in the match dropping the next three sets by the scores of 25-6, 25-14,and 25-14.
It was a career day for Kloos as she set a personal-best for kills in the match leading the team with 10. This is the first time in Kloos' career where she had a double-digit kills performance as she led the Bobcats' attack in not only kills, but hitting percentage with a .348%. Kloos' personal best before today came against Saint Peter's on Oct. 11 when she had nine kills in the Bobcats' 3-2 loss.
Freshman Cheyenne Orsi (Bristol, Conn.) continued her recent hot streak finishing second on the team with seven kills while also leading the Bobcats with six blocks. The six-block performance is her second highest total in a game this season with her personal best coming against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 24 with nine blocks. Over her past six games, Orsi is averaging 8.17 kills, 3.33 blocks, and a hitting percentage of .281% for Quinnipiac.
The Bobcats got a strong all-around performance from senior Tanner Celestion (Norco, Calif.) In the game, Celestin finished second on the team in blocks with four, and third on the team for both kills (five) and digs (seven). The four-block performance ties a season best for Celestin who hasn't had four blocks since Aug. 29 when she had four blocks against Lafayette in a 3-2 Bobcats' win.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow as they play their last conference road game of the season against the Iona Gaels in another important MAAC matchup that starts at 1 p.m. The following weekend Quinnipiac will wrap up the regular season with two home games starting with the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. The following day will be Senior Day for the Class of 2015 as the Bobcats play their final game of the season at Burt Kahn Court, a 1 p.m. matchup against the Purple Eagles of Niagara University.
