Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's soccer team put the finishing touches on a great regular season with a 2-0 win over the Fairfield Stags. The Bobcats finish with a 10-4-4 overall record and undefeated in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at 7-0-3. Goalkeeper Borja Angoitia (Bilbao, Spain) and defender Justin Kody (Northborough, Massachusetts) captured their first career goals in the victory.
Quinnipiac's offense got going late in the second half after being outshot 4-1 in the first frame. Senior forward Raphael Carvalho (Danbury, Connecticut) had the lone shot on goal of the half, but was saved by Fairfield's keeper.
The second half was a different story as each side recorded five shots on goal. Angoitia was able to make five strong saves on one end and score the game winning goal on the other. In the 83rd minute, Fairfield was assessed a penalty in the box and Quinnipiac called on Angoitia for the shot. The goal was the first of his career after providing an assist last week against Siena.
In the 90th minute, Quinnipiac scored their second goal off the foot of Kody. Midfielder James Greco (Long Valley, New Jersey) placed a perfect through ball to find Kody one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Kody beat the keeper with his only shot of the regular season and first career score.
The Bobcats undefeated MAAC regular season record of 7-0-3 is the best in division one program history. Quinnipiac is now undefeated in its last 16 games against MAAC competition, compiling a 10-0-6 record dating back to last season.
With the win, the Bobcats also tie the longest unbeaten streak in Quinnipiac's division one history since 2007 when Eric Da Costa's squad opened the season without a loss through its first 12 games, posting a 9-0-3 record. Quinnipiac's current team also at 9-0-3, has a chance to break the record in the MAAC semifinal at the QU Soccer Field on Friday, Nov. 14th. The Bobcats will play the lowest advancing seed of Saturday's two first round matchups featuring No. 6 Fairfield at No. 3 Rider and No. 5 Siena at No. 4 Iona.
