HANOVER, N.H. — The Quinnipiac volleyball team battled back from an early deficit to force a deciding fifth set, but ultimately fell short to Binghamton, 3-2 (16-25, 27-25, 25-15, 23-25, 11-15), on Sunday afternoon at Leede Arena.

Giulia Ragusa led the Bobcats' offense with a team-high 23 points, registering 23 kills on a .380 hitting percentage. Sila Yildiz provided a huge spark off the bench, hit a team-best .611 with 12 kills, and matched a match-high four service aces. Setter Sophia Gisslen directed the offense with 63 assists and collected six digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1 (Binghamton 25, Quinnipiac 16): Binghamton came out strong in the opening frame, hitting .458 as a team. Quinnipiac stayed within striking distance early following kills from Ragusa and Asia Belli, but a late run by the Bearcats sealed the opening set.
Set 2 (Quinnipiac 27, Binghamton 25): The Bobcats responded in a thrilling second set that featured four tie scores and two lead changes. Down 23-18 late, Quinnipiac mounted a furious rally capped by a Vittoria Tonelli service ace and consecutive kills from Ragusa to level the score at 24-24. After exchanging points, Quinnipiac claimed the final two points to equalize the match.
Set 3 (Quinnipiac 25, Binghamton 15): Quinnipiac carried its momentum straight into the third, delivering its most dominant performance of the match. Hitting .310 while holding Binghamton to .120, the Bobcats used strong service runs from Yildiz and Sophia Minlend to put the set out of reach early.
Set 4 (Binghamton 25, Quinnipiac 23): Set four was a tight, back-and-forth affair with nine tie scores and four lead changes. Trailing 21-20, Binghamton capitalized on late Bobcat errors and key kills from Viktoria Dimitrova to force a fifth set.
Set 5 (Binghamton 15, Quinnipiac 11): Binghamton stormed out to a 4-0 start in the tiebreaker. Quinnipiac fought back behind a service ace from Yildiz to pull within 7-6, but the Bearcats hit .529 in the frame to secure the match.
