Hamden, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey senior goaltender Chelsea Laden has been featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" section in the Nov. 24 issue of the magazine with New England Patriots running back Jonas Gray on the cover.
The section focuses on highlighting the achievements of the "best up-and-coming amateur athletes," according to Sports Illustrated.
This is the second time a member of the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team has been featured in "Faces in the Crowd" as former player Kelly Babstock was featured on Jan. 17, 2011 during her freshman season. Laden is also just the sixth Quinnipiac athlete to be featured in "Faces in the Crowd," following in the footsteps of Babstock, former men's soccer player and current assistant coach Graciano Brito, former men's ice hockey goaltender Eric Hartzell and former men's ice hockey forwards Connor and Kellen Jones.
Laden has been one of the top goaltenders in the country, as she currently leads the nation in GAA (0.45), save percentage (.962) and shutouts (7). Laden is also second in the country in win percentage (.955).
Two of Laden's shutouts have come against teams ranked in the Top 10 of the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Polls as she shut out then-ranked No. 8/6 Cornell 3-0 at Cornell on Nov. 1 and No. 5/5 Clarkson 1-0 at home on Nov. 21. Laden's shutout at Cornell was the first shutout loss for the Big Red at Lynah Rink since Nov. 17, 2006 when they lost 1-0 to Princeton.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Tuesday when it faces ECAC travel partner Princeton at Hobey Baker Memorial Rink with puck drop scheduled for 7 P.M.
