Durham, New Hampshire – It was a night of firsts for the No. 7 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team as not only did they record their first ever win on the road against the New Hampshire Wildcats but Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) netted her first career goal in the 4-1 victory Friday night.
Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) continued to light up the scoreboard as she scored her nation-leading sixth goal of the season amongst freshman and Meghan Turner (Bedford, New Hampshire) scored her first goal of the season.
Also scoring for the Bobcats was Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) as she tallied her second goal of the season.
Chelsea Laden's scoreless streak came to an end in the second period as the Wildcats became the first team to put the puck past her. Laden's streak comes to an end at 267:33 without allowing a goal. She recorded 15 saves in the game for her fifth consecutive win.
Friday night's win also marked Quinnipiac's third win against Hockey East teams this season.
After multiple scoring opportunities early in the first period, Turner got on the scoreboard for the first time this season as she gave Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead. Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) found Turner with a pass in the corner where Turner skated along the goal line towards New Hampshire goaltender Vilma Vaattovaara and backhanded a shot through her five-hole.
Quinnipiac dominated the first period offensively as they allowed just two shots to reach the net, and outshot New Hampshire 13-2 in the opening frame.
The offense came alive in the second period as three goals were scored between the Bobcats and Wildcats in the explosive period.
Darkangelo got the Bobcats started off on the right foot just 24 seconds into the second period with her second goal of the season. Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) battled for the puck in the corner and dug it out to Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) in the faceoff circle where she found Darkangelo in the lower left part of the slot to one-time the puck past Vaattovaara.
A little over seven minutes later, Cianfarano tallied her sixth goal of the season to give Quinnipiac a 3-0 lead just about midway through the contest with the Wildcats. Morgan Fritz-Ward (Mason City, Iowa) skated the puck from the neutral zone into the offensive zone on goal before she slid the pass to Cianfarano in the slot to wrist a shot into a wide open net with Vaattovaara late to cover the weak side.
New Hampshire did get one goal back in the second period as Laden allowed her first goal of the season with 8:11 remaining in the period. Right after the Quinnipiac power play ended, the Wildcats got a two-on-one opportunity with one defenseman skating back for the Bobcats. Kayla Mork skated in one Laden before dumping the pass off for Brittany Redlick to tap the puck past Laden for her first goal of the season.
Despite the Wildcats getting a goal back, the Bobcats continued to win the shots battled 16-6 in the period.
Marmer added her insurance goal early in the third period as she stole the puck at the blue line for the Bobcats and knifed her way through the defense before putting the puck top shelf past Vaattovaara to take a 4-1 lead. Not only was the goal Marmer's first of her career, but the first point of her career as well.
Laden made a key save with about seven minutes remaining in the third period as Amy Boucher skated through traffic on net and backhanded a shot towards Laden which she turned away right next to the post to maintain the three goal lead.
Vaattovaara allowed four goals in a game for the third time this season for the Wildcats but still managed to record 34 saves in the loss.
Quinnipiac outshot New Hampshire 38-16 for the game, and has continued to outshoot their opponent every period but one so far this season.
The Bobcats have a week off before they return to action next Friday when they open up ECAC play with a road trip to Hamilton, New York to take on the Colgate Raiders with puck drop scheduled for 7 P.M.
