Jersey City, N.J. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats fell in the fifth and final set to Saint Peter's in a heartbreaking loss. With the loss, Quinnipiac falls to 0-7 in the conference while Saint Peter's improves to 2-4 in MAAC play. In the third set Quinnipiac would mount one of their best comebacks of the season. After falling behind 16-10, the Bobcats battled back on a 7-1 run sparked by Katie Urycki's three kills in a row to tie the match at 17. After Tanner Celestin's service ace gave the Bobcats a 20-19 lead, the team ended the set on a 5-4 run capped off by two attack errors by St. Peter's giving the Bobcats the set.
In the fifth and final set, with the score tied at four, St. Peter's would finish off Quinnipiac on a 11-5 run sparked by two sequences where the Peacocks scored three points in a row.
Once again the Quinnipiac offense was led by sophomore Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Ind.) who continued to be the kills' leader for the Bobcats this season with 12 more kills in the match against St. Peter's. Urycki now has compiled over 10 kills in two of the last three games. She also continued her fine year from the service line with another ace, giving her 24 on the season, which also leads the team. On the defensive end, Urycki put up eight digs in the match to complete a great all-around day for the Bobcats.
Sophomore, Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska) once again led the team with five blocks in the match. Leigh rounded out her day with six kills and a service ace for the Bobcats on offense.
Freshman Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, Calif.) led the Bobcats once again in assists with 26 which now brings her streak of consecutive 25 plus assists in a match to three games. Dawson also gave a stout defensive effort tying for the game-high in digs with 12. Her 12-dig outing against the Peacocks was the second-most for Dawson in a match this season
Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) was a big contributor in the match with eight kills, her most in a match since Sept. 12. Kloos was also a focal point of the Quinnipiac defense as combined with Leigh at the net, tallying four blocks in the match.
Quinnipiac would also get another solid performance on the defensive side by sophomore libero Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.). Michaels tied with Dawson for the most digs in the match with 12 while also adding four assists in the effort. Cody now has gone back-to-back matches with 12 digs.
The Bobcats return action tomorrow for another road conference game. The Bobcats will head to Lawrenceville New Jersey tomorrow Sunday Oct. 12th with a match against Rider. This will be a big test for the Bobcats as the Rider Broncs are the only team left in the MAAC with a perfect conference record.
