Bobcats Tied For 17th At Rutger Women's Golf Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team completed the first day of the Rutgers Invitational tied for 17th place out of the 20-team field with a combined 336 at the Rutgers University Golf Course in Piscataway, N.J.

Delaware and Seton Hall were tied for first (302), followed by Bucknell (309), St. John's and Fairleigh Dickinson (311) tied for fourth. LIU- Brooklyn (314), Georgetown (315), Lehigh (322), Hartford, Rutgers and Albany (326) rounded out the top 10. Wagner (329), Central Connecticut and Fairfield (334), and Monmouth and Sacred Heart (335) fell in before Quinnipiac and Hofstra (336). St. Francis (N.Y.) (347) and Navy (364) filled out the remaining spots.
"We had a tough day. I'm disappointed with today's scores," head coach John O'Connor said. "There was a lot of good competition, on a great golf course with beautiful weather. Everybody really played well, and had some great holes, but fell apart on a couple and that hurt them.
Nicole Scola (Westerly, R.I.) once-again led Quinnipiac with an 81, good for a tie of 39th place out of 113 golfers. The score was also the highest of Scola's career at Quinnipiac. Sophomore captain Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Conn.) and freshman Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) matched each other as both shot an 82 for a tie of 58th place. Jennifer Forlenza (Wayne, N.J.) and Alexa Gentile (North Providence, R.I.) both signed a 91 for a tie of 101st place.
"Jenn Forlenza was putting together a real nice day, she was playing great," O'Connor said. "She had a tough time on the 17th and 18th holes and ended up with a higher score than her play deserved. No excuses for today, though. We're heading to the driving range now to make adjustments. We certainly hope that tomorrow is a better day. We're looking forward to another opportunity to score better."
The Bobcats complete the two-day tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Rutgers University Golf Course.
