- Men's Soccer Assistant Coach
Leon Othen enters his first season as a member of the Quinnipiac men’s soccer coaching staff in 2016.
Othen will work with Quinnipiac's goalkeepers and brings two decades worth of experience coaching the position. Most recently, he has served as the director of goalkeeping for Everton America Premier, where he has been in charge of the development of over 50 goalkeepers throughout the organization. For the past year, he has simultaneously served as the goalkeeper coach for Joel Barlow High School. His past experience has included coaching for the Arsenal Football Club's Academy in England, serving as the goalkeeping director and head of specialist camps for MLS Camps, and serving as a regional director for UK International Soccer.
In addition to his coaching experience at various levels of soccer, Othen also has local collegiate ties after serving as a goalkeeper coach for the University of New Haven from 2011-12. He also had an extensive career as a professional goalkeeper, playing for Leyton Orient FC in English League One, the Saffron Walden Football Club and the Clapton Football Club in the Ryman League, and for Public Bank in the Malaysian Second Division.
"I'm excited for this opportunity to work with Quinnipiac University and to help the men's soccer team to continue to grow in Division I athletics," said Othen. "It is always exciting to join a new team, and I'm looking forward to gaining a different coaching perspective from Coach Da Costa and his staff."
"I am happy that Leon has joined us," said Da Costa. "His experience and professionalism will add value to our staff. We have some talented goalkeepers on our squad, and I am certain Leon will aid their development and help them improve within our competitive environment."
