Abby Lucas enters her fourth season as an assistant coach with the Quinnipiac University field hockey team in 2025 and her third under head coach Nina Klein. Lucas primarily oversees to the goalkeepers for the Quinnipiac Field Hockey program.
In 2024, Cristina Torres notched a career-high 118 saves for the Bobcats including a career-high 16 saves at Yale and 11 saves at Villanova to earn her BIG EAST Honor Roll recognition.
During the 2023 season, QU had its lowest goals allowed per game since joining the BIG EAST at 2.41. Cristina Torres also notched an 11 save shutout over Maine.
Lucas' first season in 2022 was one for the books for the Bobcats, as Quinnipiac earned eight wins on the campaign, a five-win increase from the season prior. That season, the Bobcats notched two wins over ranked opponents, marking the first time in program history where that has happened in a single season. In the wins over No. 22 Maine and No. 24 Penn, the Bobcats shut out both opponents.
Quinnipiac logged four shutouts on the season, marking the most by the team in a single season since 2013 (7). Primarily working with the goalkeepers, Lucas was pivotal in the development first year keeper Cristina Torres. Of the four shutouts recorded for QU in 2022, Torres was responsible for three of them, including the two over ranked opponents. Torres also logged 57 minutes in the team shutout victory in the season finale against Sacred Heart. As a first year, Torres was named BIG EAST Rookie of the week twice.
Prior to making her way to Quinnipiac, Lucas spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Franklin Pierce field hockey team. In her two years with the program, Lucas helped lead the Ravens to six wins, including three in an abbreviated campaign in her first season with the team.
Prior to her stint at Franklin Pierce, Lucas spent her undergraduate years at UConn as a member of the field hockey program. A member of the Huskies' 2017 national championship team, UConn also made an appearance in the national semifinal during her freshman season. In all, Lucas appeared in nine games during her four years in Storrs, during which she posted a 1.07 goals-against average. She capped her career with a selection to the 2019-20 Big East Conference All-Academic Team.
Lucas graduated from UConn in 2019 with her bachelor’s degree in communication and earned her master’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in sports management from Franklin Pierce this past May.
