Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats dropped the first game of their final home series of the season, 9-3, to the Rider Broncs on Thursday afternoon in Hamden. With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 22-24 overall and 13-12 in MAAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Nick Shuhet got the Broncs on the board first in the second inning with an RBI groundout to first base, giving Rider an early 1-0 lead.

The game remained 1-0 Rider until the Bobcats came up to bat in the fourth inning. Alex Irizarry singled to right field, bringing home Kyle Garbowksi with Quinnipiac's first run of the contest to knot the game up at one.

The Bobcats jumped out in front in the fifth inning as Caden Williamson singled up the middle, scoring Cole Constable from second to make it a 2-1 lead for the Bobcats.

Nick Shuhet came through for the Broncs once again, singling home two runs for Rider in the sixth inning, taking a 3-2 lead.

Alex Irizarry came through for the Bobcats in the sixth, scoring Christian Smith with a sacrifice fly to center to knot the contest at three.

Rider put up a five-spot in the eighth inning to take an 8-3 lead before adding a ninth run in the final inning. The Broncs shut down the Bobcats in their half of the ninth to win the series opener, 9-3.

NEWS AND NOTES

Seven Bobcats recorded hits in the series opener against Rider, with two of those hitters recording multiple hits in the effort.
Alex Irizarry led the offense with two RBIs in the contest, giving him 34 on the year, which ranks first on the team.
Irizarry picked up one hit in three at-bats in the loss, putting his batting average at .307 for the year.
Irizarry also extended his hit streak to eleven games, while his on-base streak reached 26 games.
Caden Williamson drove home the other run for the Bobcats, his 17^th RBI of the season.
Kyle Garbowski and Christian Smith both picked up two hits in four at-bats in the loss.
James Marino, Chase Camac, and Cole Constable each picked up a hit in the effort.
Andrew Rubayo was solid in the start, going six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, and striking out four.
Mason Ulsh pitched the next 1.2 innings and allowed five runs on three hits, while walking three.
J.c. Franconere came on for the final 1.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits and struck out one.
