Bobcats Fall to Manhattan in Series Opener

Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats dropped game one of the series to the Manhattan Jaspers by a final score of 6-5. With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 6-12 on the season and 1-3 in MAAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first in this one as Christian Smith came home to score on a groundout from Jack Balcer.
Manhattan responded with a couple of runs in the third inning to jump out in front, 2-1. Quinnipiac immediately got the run back in the next half inning as Smith reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Kyle Garbowski to come in and score.
The Jaspers would have the answer yet again, scoring the game's next two runs to take a 4-2 lead at the end of five innings.
Quinnipiac wouldn't go down without a fight as James Marino launched a three-run homer to put the Bobcats up 5-4 in the top half of the seventh inning.
Once again, Manhattan would have the response, going up 6-5 in the bottom half of the seventh and holding on to win the opening game of the series.

- Five different Bobcats recorded hits in the series opener against Manhattan. Three of those Bobcats recorded multiple hits in the effort.
- James Marino led the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in three runs. Marino hit his second home run of the season, which now leads the team.
- Christian Smith and Jack Balcer picked up two hits and an RBI each.
- Brendan Edvardsen and Caden Williamson were the other Bobcats to record a hit in the effort.
- James Pazdera got the start for the Bobcats and went 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out one.
- Mike Poncini pitched the next 2.1 innings, striking out three and allowing two runs.
- J.c. Franconere pitched a scoreless inning in relief, striking out two in the inning.
