Bobcats Selected to Finish Third in Coaches' Preseason Poll
HAMDEN, Conn. – Christian Smith was nominated to the Preseason All-MAAC team, as announced by the league office on Thursday, February 5th.
Quinnipiac was also picked to finish third in the MAAC Coaches' Preseason Poll, receiving a total of 139 votes. The Bobcats were picked to finish behind the reigning MAAC Champions, Fairfield (168) and Rider (146). The Stags earned 12 of the 13 first-place votes, while the Broncs received the other first-place vote.
In his junior season in Hamden, Smith finished the year with a .329 batting average in 56 contests. Smith tied for the team lead in home runs with 15 and led the Bobcats with 67 runs batted in. Smith had a tremendous MAAC Tournament last season, finishing the week with a .375 clip (6-for-16), while driving in nine runs in the five games in Pomona, earning him a nod on the All-Tournament team.
QU went 29-26-1 last season and finished conference play with a 17-13 record, earning the five seed for the 2025 MAAC Championships. Quinnipiac's 29 wins were the most in a single season since the 2023 season (30 wins). Despite being the five seed in the MAAC Tournament, the Bobcats showed up in Pomona, making it to the MAAC Semifinal before falling to the Rider Broncs.
The Bobcats start their season next Friday, Feb. 13, in Norfolk, Virginia, with a battle against Old Dominion at 3 PM.
