North Andover, Mass. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team improved to 2-1 in MAAC play as the Bobcats swept the Merrimack Warriors on Tuesday evening at Hammel Court.
The Bobcats and Warriors were locked in a battle for much of the first set as the Bobcats held a one-point advantage, 19-18, as Quinnipiac called their first timeout of the set. Out of the break, the Bobcats went on a 3-1 run to force the Warriors to use a timeout of their own. The Bobcats closed out the first set on another 3-1 scoring run to win the first set 25-20.
The Warriors jumped out in front to start the second set, as they held a 9-5 lead as the Bobcats called their first timeout of the set. Quinnipiac went on a 5-1 run out of the timeout, which incited the Warriors to call their first timeout of the second set. The Bobcats held the scoring advantage for the remainder of the second set, closing out on a 15-12 run to take the middle frame, 25-22.
The third set mirrored the opening set with both teams going on scoring runs, but Merrimack held just a two-point lead, 17-15, late in the third set. After the Bobcats called a timeout, Quinnipiac went on a 3-1 run to even the set at 18 points apiece. With the win within reach, Quinnipiac continued to stay ahead of the Warriors, taking seven of the next 12 points to win the third set, 25-23, to take the match.
