Bobcats Defend Home Court Against Canisius

Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team returned to their home court in a big way, defeating the Canisius Golden Griffins in four sets on Friday night in Hamden.
Canisius jumped ahead of Quinnipiac early in the first set as they took a 10-7 lead to force the Bobcats to take their first timeout of the match. The teams traded points out of the break, and the Golden Griffins called a timeout as their lead was 20-17. Both sides recorded points out of the timeout, but it was the Golden Griffins who closed out the set, 25-22.
The second set was the opposite of the first, as the Bobcats held the early advantage against Canisius, 17-13. After the Golden Griffins called their first timeout of the set, the Bobcats used an 8-6 scoring run to close out the second set, 25-19.
The third set was much of the same as the Bobcats held a 16-11 lead as Canisius called the first timeout of the third set. Canisius and the Bobcats would trade points for the remainder of the set, but the Bobcats were able to close out the set, 25-20.
With the Bobcats one set away from winning the match, Quinnipiac came out and wanted to finish the match in four sets. QU held a 20-17 lead late in the fourth set as Canisius used a timeout to calm things down. After the Golden Griffins made it 22-19, they called their final timeout of the set. Quinnipiac called a timeout of their own as Canisius made it a one-point game, 23-22. After Canisius knotted the set at 23, the Bobcats scored the next two points to win the set and the match.
