Fairfield, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team defeated Sacred Heart in its MAAC opener on Friday night, earning a 3-1 victory.

Sacred Heart got on the board first, scoring the first two points in the opening set. The Bobcats would respond with a 15-6 run to force a timeout from the Pioneers. Out of the break, QU would continue to dominate, scoring the next three points and forcing Sacred Heart to use their final timeout of the set. The two sides traded points, but the Bobcats closed out the set, winning 25-14.

The Bobcats and Pioneers went back-and-forth to start the second set, but QU started to pull away, taking a 17-13 lead. The Pioneers kept it close, forcing a Quinnipiac timeout with the Bobcats leading by four, 22-18. Out of the break, QU and SHU traded points, and the set ended with a service error to move QU to one set away from the win.

QU and SHU traded points once again to start the set, but this time it was the Pioneers that took a small lead, 16-15, to force QU to use their first timeout. A quick 3-1 run from the Pioneers forced the Bobcats to use their final timeout of the set. Quinnipiac battled back, but ultimately the Pioneers extended the match, winning the third set, 26-24.

Quinnipiac started the fourth set on fire, going on a 7-0 run to force the Pioneers to call an early timeout. The Bobcats continued to pour it on in the fourth set as they took down the Pioneers, 25-12, to secure their first MAAC win of the year.

Leilani-kai Giusta had a big day for the Bobcats, leading the team with 18 kills, her most in a match this season.
Giacomini recorded her ninth double-double of the season and 28^th of her career as a Bobcat, with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Giacomini has led the Bobcats in kills in eleven of thirteen matches so far this season.
Yagmur Gunes reached double-digit kills, recording 12 in the four-set win.
Damla Gunes led the team with 38 assists, and three other Bobcats recorded at least one assist.
Carola Negron Diaz led the team with 20 digs, tying her season high.
The Gunes twins each recorded a service ace in the win.
Six different Bobcats recorded at least one kill in the victory.
Quinnipiac recorded 13.0 total blocks, its highest output of the season.
The Bobcats hit 26.2%, the highest percentage of the season thus far.
