Fujita Leads Bobcats After Day One in State College

State College, Pennsylvania - The Quinnipiac women's golf team wrapped up their first day of competition at the Nittany Lion Invitational in 7^th place out of 16 teams on Sunday in State College, PA.

The reigning MAAC Player of the Year, Sophia Fujita, picked up right where she left off, finishing the day with a score of 144 (E). Fujita will head into the final day of competition in a tie for 8^th place and just six strokes behind the current leader.

Marisa Flores shot a 149 (+5) in the first tournament of her second season at Quinnipiac. Michelle Wong opened her college career with a two-round total of 155 (+11).

After redshirting last season, Tekla Fine-Lease competed in her first tournament as a Bobcat and finished with a 36-hole total score of 158 (+14). Junior Samantha Galantini rounded out the Quinnipiac grouping with a score of 166 (+22).

The Bobcats will return to play tomorrow, September 22^nd, as they conclude their participation at the Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course.

SCORES AND NOTES

Sophia Fujita carded a 74 (+2) in round one and a 70 (-2) in the second round on Sunday. Fujita recorded seven birdies on the first day of competition. Fujita jumped up six spots as her day came to an end.
Marisa Flores shot a 75 (+3) on the first 18 holes and a 74 (+2) on the final 18 holes to open play at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
First-year Michelle Wong finished with a score of 77 (+5) in her first round of collegiate golf and followed up with a score of 78 (+6) in the second round. Wong birdied on four holes on the final 18 holes on day one.
Tekla Fine-Lease played in her first round of collegiate golf and finished with a score of 76 (+4).
Quinnipiac is fifth among a competitive field of 16 teams with 20 birdies as a team.
