HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey junior Emerson Jarvis received the Global Citizen of the Year Award, as announced last Monday night at QU's Undergraduate Awards Ceremony.
The Global Citizen of the Year Award is given to an individual that has demonstrated and sustained a passion for the advancement of internationalism and multiculturalism in and outside the classroom, participated or led events related to global engagement, or has made achievements in support of the improvements around diversity and inclusion efforts.
Emerson Jarvis has been able to do all of this off the ice, partly due to her involvement with Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey as well as taking part in the Sawhney Leadership Program. This program prepares its fellows for their future careers with leadership development workshops, engaging with successful alumni, building relationships with faculty and staff. This is done to immerse participants in corporate settings and develop a community of supportive, goal-oriented peers.
The Edmonton, Alberta native participates in the Quinnipiac Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), while also doing community service with local teams and schools. She is a marketing major with a concentration in fashion, and is passionate about growing sustainability practices in the fashion world.
Jarvis also hopes to one day build and design her own ethical clothing brand that honors her family's Cree and Western Canadian roots.
