Wright Grand Slam Punctuates Shootout Win at Mount

Outfielder puts end to nine-run Bobcat seventh, powering visitors to road victory
Entering the frame down 9-8, Gabe Wright punctuated the inning with a grand slam to make the score 17-9.
A two-run Kyle Garbowski single gave the Bobcats the lead for good, that was followed up by a pair of bases loaded walks and a wild pitch to make it a 13-9 scoreline before Wright's big blast.
Quinnipiac flew out to a 3-0 lead, with CJ Willis driving in a pair and Sean McCullough adding a run-scoring knock.
Mount St. Mary's used the long ball to bring in five of its first six runs, with a two-run shot in the fifth cutting its deficit to 7-6.
After the Mountaineers finished off their five-run frame in the fifth, Quinnipiac rattled off the next 10, including one in the sixth and the nine-run seventh, to take control.
STATS AND NOTES
- The 17 runs are the second-most by the Bobcats this season, coming four short of its 21-run output at Morehead State on Feb. 28.
- It is Wright's first grand slam as a Bobcat.
- The three runs scored are also a season best for the junior outfielder.
- Johnny Knox made his fifth appearance on the hill this season and has yet to allow a run, pitching 4.1 scoreless on the year. He had a scoreless frame with a strikeout Saturday.
- He also extended his hitting streak to six games, recording three knocks in five at-bats. He has four multi-outings during that stretch and ten since April 11.
- Garbowski recorded four hits, a new collegiate best. He added his eighth, multi-RBI game of the season and first since April 4 at Niagara.
- Willis has driven in a run in seven of his last nine outings, tallying 12 during that span to add to his 52 total this season. He has recorded a hit in nine straight and 16 of his last 17 games, batting .397 during that span.
- Alex Irizzary crossed the plate twice today, the first time he's done that as a Bobcat. He's recorded multiple hits in three of his last five outings.
- Cole Constable has also had multiple hits in four of his last seven appearances after two hits on Saturday.
- Sean McCullough drove in a season-best three runs.
