Five Bobcats Receive All-MAAC Honors

HAMDEN, Conn. – Christian Smith and CJ Willis were named to the All-MAAC First Team, and a trio of players were voted to the All-MAAC Second Team, as announced by the league office on Monday, May 19th.
Quinnipiac also placed 14 student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Senior CJ Willis earned All-MAAC First Team honors after a great second season in Hamden. Willis led the Bobcats with a .342 batting average in 48 starts this season. The Auburn, Mass. native launched 12 home runs and drove in 59 RBIs, which was the most on the team. Willis ranked third in the conference in RBIs, eighth in slugging percentage (.618), and second in triples (4).
Christian Smith was named to the All-MAAC First Team after his junior season for the Bobcats. Smith hit .325 in 51 starts, splitting time as the designated hitter and the catcher. The Fairfield, Connecticut native was second on the team with 58 runs batted in and was tied for second on the squad with 12 home runs.
Alex Irizarry, John Knox, and Sebastian Mueller were all named to the All-MAAC Second Team for their respective positions. Irizarry started 47 games this season as the team's primary shortstop and recorded a .323 batting average and a .964 fielding percentage. Irizarry ranked second in the MAAC with 19 doubles, which led the Bobcats. In his first season in Hamden, Irizarry launched 12 long balls and drove in 46 runs. Johnny Knox also made a big impact in his first season in a Bobcat uniform, playing in 50 contests. Knox hit .311 on the season and stole 17 bases in 19 attempts. Knox also made an impact on the mound, making six appearances and pitching 5.1 innings without allowing a run. Sebastian Mueller did Sebastian Mueller things in his final season in Hamden, launching a team-high 14 home runs. Mueller hit .335 in 51 starts at third base.
