FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Baseball team dropped their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon, losing 8-4 to the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Sacred Heart scored five runs in the final three innings to take the series from Quinnipiac.

The Bobcats will head to the MAAC Championships as the #5 seed and will take on the #8 seed in the first game of the single-elimination portion of the bracket on Tuesday, May 20^th at 11 AM. Their opponent is TBD.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the first time in this series, the Pioneers got on the board first as they plated three runs in the opening inning.

Quinnipiac got a run back in the third inning as Sebastian Mueller flew out to center field, allowing Kyle Garbowski to score from third and get the Bobcats on the board.

The Bobcats plated three runs in the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game. Sebastian Mueller reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home Kyle Garbowski to make it a two-run game. Johnny Knox would single to right field to score CJ Willis with the tying run. Christian Smith later grounded out to the shortstop to bring home Mueller and give Quinnipiac a 4-3 lead.

Sacred Heart knotted the game up at four in the seventh inning on an RBI triple to center field. The Pioneers scored two more in the inning to take a 6-4 lead over the Bobcats.

The Pioneers tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning as they took an 8-4 lead into the final inning. Quinnipiac was retired in the top of the ninth as the Pioneers took the series from Quinnipiac.

NEWS AND NOTES

Five Bobcats recorded at least one hit in the loss, and two Bobcats recorded three hits in the regular season finale.
Sebastian Mueller recorded two RBIs without recording a hit in the loss.
Kyle Garbowski and CJ Willis each recorded three hits in the effort.
Willis leads the team with a .342 batting average, and Garbowski is third on the team with a .326 average.
Sean McCulloch, Johnny Knox, and Alex Irizarry each tallied one hit.
