HOW IT HAPPENED
Christian Smith got the Bobcats on the board in the opening inning as he brought home Kyle Garbowski on an RBI single to right field. Later in the inning, Alex Irizarry was able to reach on an error and Sebastian Mueller scored to make it 2-0, Bobcats.
Quinnipiac would add to their lead in the fourth inning with two more runs. Kyle Garbowski singled on a bunt as Gabe Wright scored on the play. Christian Smith would get his second RBI of the game as Sean McCulloch scored on Smith's groundout to the shortstop.
The Bobcat pitching held the Eagles off the board as the Bobcats added another two runs to their lead in the fifth inning. Sean McCulloch and Kyle Garbowski each scored a run with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
After another scoreless inning for the Bobcats' pitching staff, another Quinnipiac run came in as James Marino reached on an error in the sixth inning. Morehead State would finally get on the board in the bottom half of the sixth as they struck for three runs, making it a 7-3 lead for Quinnipiac.
After the Bobcats got a run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly from James Marino, Quinnipiac would bring home three runs in the ninth inning to give them an 11-3 lead. With Jack Kabel on the mound in the final half-inning, the Eagles were held off the scoreboard as Quinnipiac beat Morehead State 11-3.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Seven of the nine starters recorded at least one hit in the win over Morehead State.
- Christian Smith continued his great start to the series as he went 2-for-6 with two runs batted in.
- Sebastian Mueller continues his hot start to the season as he went 1-for-3 to push his batting average to .424.
- Gabe Wright walked three times in the game, the most he has walked in a single game this season.
- Andrew Rubayo picked up the win as he went 3.0 innings, allowing three runs.
- Mike Poncini struck out five batters in three innings of work.
