Bobcats Earn Series Win Over Radford With 7-5 Victory

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac got on the board early on in this game, striking for two runs in the opening inning. Sean McCulloch came home with the game's first run as CJ Willis grounded into a double play. During the next at-bat, a wild pitch from Radford allowed Kyle Garbowski to come home to double QU's lead. The hosts got one run back in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Garbowski got the run right back for the Bobcats as Johnny Knox came home on Garbowski's sacrifice fly, making it 3-1 Quinnipiac.
In the top of the fifth inning, Alex Irizarry launched his first home run as a Bobcat to push their lead to 4-1. The next inning, Quinnipiac tacked on another run with Sebastian Mueller reaching on an error and Garbowski crossing the plate.
The Bobcats looked for more insurance in the ninth inning, and that's exactly what they got. Christian Smith singled home Mueller to make it 6-1 Bobcats. Cole Constable got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as Quinnipiac made it 7-1. Radford didn't go down quietly in the bottom of the ninth, as two runs were scored on a throwing error. Radford made it a two-run game with a two-run double and two outs. Sam Wright got the final out via the strikeout to seal the win for QU.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Six different Bobcats recorded hits in the series finale against the Highlanders.
- Alex Irizarry had a big day going 3-for-5 at the plate, including his first home run as a Bobcat.
- Irizarry has recorded at least one hit in four of seven games so far this season.
- Sean McCulloch recorded another leadoff hit, the third straight game he began the contest with a base knock.
- Sebastian Mueller recorded another RBI, his sixth game recording at least one RBI this season.
- Matt Alduino went four innings and allowed just one earned run to lower his season ERA to 4.50.
- Jack Kabel pitched two innings in relief and allowed just one hit. Kabel has allowed just two hits in 5.2 innings pitched this season.
- The Bobcats will be back in action next weekend (Feb. 28 – Mar. 2) as they head down to Morehead, Kentucky to play Morehead State for three games.
