No. 8/9 Bobcats Fall in Tightly-Contested IceBreaker Semifinal
10/10/2025 8:35:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
TEMPE, Ariz. — A deflection in front that found its way into the net proved to be the difference, as the No. 8/9 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program dropped its IceBreaker semifinal by a 2-1 scoreline at Mullett Arena on Friday afternoon.
An Alexander Malinowski shot deflected off a Bobcat defender and beat Dylan Silverstein and that proved to be the difference, despite the Bobcats outshooting the Nanooks 34-20.
Alaska scored the game's first goal, but Quinnipiac answered when Jeremy Wilmer came streaking down the slot and fed Ethan Wyttenbach, who slapped it home late in the first to even the scoring.
After a scoreless second, Alaska scored the lone goal of the third to take the win.
Quinnipiac generated seven shots in the final 3:10 with the net empty, but four were blocked and two others were saved by the Alaska goalie.
STATS AND NOTES
The Bobcats will take on the loser of Arizona State/Notre Dame on Saturday. If the matchup is Notre Dame, puck drop is slated for 6 p.m. Eastern and if Quinnipiac takes on Arizona State, the game will be at 10 p.m. Eastern.
