Men's Soccer Announces Hire of Assistant Coach George Kostelis

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's soccer and head coach Eric Da Costa have announced the addition of George Kostelis to their staff.
Kostelis joined the Bobcats in the preseason and will work as an Assistant Coach on Eric Da Costa's staff this season. He has background both as a player professionally and over 20 years of coaching experience.
He joins the Bobcats after coaching at CCSU for the past two seasons, where he helped monitor the team's strength and conditioning programs and was responsible for goalkeeper training.
Kostelis has been in the Connecticut soccer community since he was a player at University of Hartford from 1989-1992, including being named captain for his senior season in 1992. He was named North Atlantic Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player in 1992. He was also named All-New England and was selected to the senior bowl in 1992. Kostelis was also an All-North Atlantic Conference Team three times from 1990-1992. After his collegiate career finished, Kostelis played professionally in Mytilene, Greece for Aiolikos Football Club from 1993-1995.
Prior to CCSU, Kostelis was a part time assistant coach for Hartford men's and women's soccer programs from 2021-2022. He has also coached in youth soccer, most recently with Soccer Club of Newington from 2019-2021, where he was director of coaching.
Kostelis coached in the USL with the Hartford Athletic as their goalkeeper coach from 2019-2020, and prior to that had other stints with other colleges in the area. He coached at URI from 2017-2018 as their associate head women's soccer coach, and was Southern Connecticut's part time assistant men's soccer coach from 2016-2017. He also worked at Trinity College in 2016 and was Western Connecticut's head men's soccer coach from 2011 to 2016.
Prior to his time as a head coach, Kostelis also worked at Yale as an assistant men's soccer coach from 2001-2011 and an assistant women's soccer coach at UConn from 1997-2000.
For his work in the Connecticut soccer community, Kostelis was Inducted to the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame in 2022. In 2007, he was inducted to University of Hartford's athletic hall of fame.
