QU Comeback Falls Short Against Siena

The Bobcats will fall to 6-17 and 0-4 in the MAAC to start the 2024 season, while Siena will go to 1-0 in conference play and 3-20 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the two sides were scoreless through the first two innings, the Saints struck first in the bottom of the third inning. A fielder's choice allowed the first run of the game to come across the plate. With two outs in the inning, the Saints scored their second run of the inning from a double to left field.
Quinnipiac struck right back in the top of the fourth and scored five runs, all with one out. Matt DeRosa got the Bobcats on the board as Sebastian Mueller and Christian Smith scored on DeRosa's double to left. With the bases loaded, Gabe Wright singled to center field and scored Kyle Garbowski. The next batter, Jared Zimbardo, singled up the middle and scored two runs, Matt DeRosa, and Dominick Proctor.

With the Saints playing behind for the first time this contest, their bats got hot as they scored the game's next ten runs, with four of those coming in the 4th inning. A single through the left side got their scoring started in the fourth and a wild pitch brought home another run. A groundout to second scored to tie the game at five and another run from a groundout gave them a 6-5 lead.
The Saints scored three more runs in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth to break the game open and take a 12-5 lead into the final three innings.
With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, Kyle Garbowski got hit by a pitch, which allowed Sebastian Mueller to cross home plate and cut the lead down to six. After Siena changed pitchers, Matt DeRosa, and Dominick Proctor each drew bases loaded walks and brought the Bobcats within four.
In the top of the eighth inning, Quinnipiac loaded the bases and Kyle Garbowski singled up the middle to score two runs and bring the Bobcats within two.

Siena came up in the bottom of the eighth inning and extended their lead back to five from a RBI single through the left side, an RBI groundout, and a bases loaded walk.
