
Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Siena, Lose Series 3-0

The Bobcats will fall to 6-18 and 0-6 in the MAAC to start the 2024 season, while Siena will go to 3-0 in conference play and 5-20 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE

The Saints were able to get those two runs right back in the bottom half of the inning to even the game at two. A sacrifice fly scored the first run for the Saints and the second run came in on a throwing error.
With the game tied at two, CJ Willis stepped up to the plate and laced a single to right field to drive in his third run of the game and give the Bobcats the 3-2 lead.

Later in the same inning, Matt DeRosa reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Sebastian Mueller to score and give Quinnipiac a two-run lead.
The Saints came right back for the second time this game and scored the game's next five runs to take a 7-4 lead. A sacrifice fly brought in a run in the fourth inning and four runs came home in the fifth inning.
The Bobcats attempted a comeback in the eighth inning as they made it a one-run game. Matt DeRosa singled to right field to score CJ Willis to bring the Bobcats within two. With the bases loaded, Jared Zimbardo drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Christian Smith and make it a 7-6 game.
The Siena bullpen shut down the Bobcats in the ninth as they held on for a 7-6 win in game one of the doubleheader.
GAME TWO
Siena kicked the scoring off in game two of the doubleheader by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. A bases clearing double got Siena on the board before an RBI single gave them a 4-0 lead.
Quinnipiac got a run back in the top of the third as Jared Zimbardo stole second and Julian Buchman crossed the plate on the throw down. However, in the bottom half of the inning, Siena got the run right back with a sacrifice fly, making it a 5-1 game through three innings of play.
The Saints scored the next five runs to open a 10-1 lead heading into the seventh inning. The Bobcats scratched across three runs to make it a 10-4 game. Jared Zimbardo singled through the right side to score Dominick Proctor. Later in the inning, Sebastian Mueller flew out to center field and two runners scored, Julian Buchman and Jared Zimbardo.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Bobcats saw themselves down by six, but Matt DeRosa reached on a fielder's choice to score two runs and make it a four-run game.
The Siena pitcher stopped the Bobcats from getting any closer as they sealed a 10-6 win and the doubleheader sweep.
