SPARTANBURG, S.C.– The Quinnipiac baseball team is down in South Carolina to compete at the OneSpartanburg, Inc. Baseball Classic (Feb. 23 -25). The Bobcats open up the classic with a matchup against USC Upstate before wrapping up against Gardner-Webb (Saturday) and Presbyterian (Sunday).

HISTORY VS. USC UPSTATE

USC Upstate leads the all-time series with the Bobcats, 2-1.
The Bobcats won the middle game of a three-game set, 11-3, back in March of 2017.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

The Spartans enter the matchup with a 3-1 record this season.
USC Upstate lost three straight games against the University of Kentucky and picked up a win against Western Carolina at home.
Vance Sheahan leads the Spartans with a .400 batting average with six hits in 15 at-bats in four games.

HISTORY VS. GARDNER-WEBB

Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series against the Bobcats, 3-1.
Quinnipiac won their last matchup, 13-3, on March 4, 2018.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Gardner-Webb comes into the matchup with a 1-3 overall record in the 2024 season.
The Bulldogs lost two out of three to the Appalachian State and lost their midweek game against North Carolina A&T.
Humberto Torres leads the Bulldogs with a .357 batting average with five hits in 14 at-bats and two home runs. Torres has driven in four runs early in the season.

HISTORY VS. PRESBYTERIAN

This is the first meeting between Quinnipiac and Presbyterian.
The Bobcats will take on Presbyterian in one game to wrap up the OneSpartanburg, Inc. Baseball Classic.

SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE

Presbyterian enters the matchup on Sunday with a 4-1 record early in the 2024 campaign.
The Blue Hose swept a four-game series from Saint Peter's, scoring double-digit runs in each game.
Their lone loss in the season came to nationally ranked Clemson, 8-2.
Brody Fahr leads the Blue Hose offense with a .632 batting average with 12 hits in 19 at-bats and drove in 10 runs so far this season.

O' CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

Junior Keegan O'Connor enters his senior season.
O'Connor was named to the All-MAAC First Team and NEIBA All-New England First Team
O'Connor played and started in 55 games a season ago and batted .342.
He blasted 13 home runs and drove in 60 runs and scored 51 runs.
O'Connor drove in a game-high 7 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11).

SE-BASH-TIAN

Sebastian Mueller was named to the 2023 MAAC All-Academic Team
Mueller played in 56 games and made 55 starts as a junior
In 225 at-bats just a season ago, Mueller had a batting average of .311.
He hit 18 homers, to lead the team, and drove in 54 runs.
Mueller went 4-for-7 and drove in a season high 8 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11)

KEY RETURNERS

The Bobcats return 23 players from last season's team.
Sophomore Matt Alduino will be a key returner as he earned 2023 All-Rookie honors for his incredible campaign. Alduino led the team with a 4.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
Starting Pitchers, Mason Ulsh and Jimmy Hagan will also play a key role this season. Hagan will return to the mound after being shut down last season. Ulsh will look to play off his solid sophomore season.
Other key returners include Braydon Seaburg, John Heitzman, Sean Swenson, Aaron Zenus, Matt DeRosa, Sam Favieri, Frank Craska, and Andrew Rubayo.

LOTS OF NEW FACES

Quinnipiac welcomes 13 new faces to their campus this season.
The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill any openings and grabbed Dominick Proctor (Bryant and Stratton), CJ Willis (Western New England), Skyler Manelski (Linfield University), Jack Kabel (Nichols College), Gabe Wright (Indian River State College), Brett Leighton (Gettysburg), and Jack Gannon (Saint Peter's).
Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, Spencer Chard (Newtown, Conn.), Kyle Garbowski (New Fairfield, Conn.), Raymond McNaught (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Andrew Hearn (Westfield, Mass.), James Fahan (Stamford, Conn.), and Sam Ametrano (Guilford, Conn.).

NEXT TIME OUT

The Bobcats will be back in action next Friday, March 1 as they open their home slate with a contest against the Merrimack Warriors at 3 PM.
