Robinson Names Captains for 2023 Campaign

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball Head Coach Kyle Robinson has announced the team's captains for the 2023 campaign. Graduate student Aryanah Diaz, seniors Lexi Morse and Chloe Ka'ahanui, and sophomore Damla Gunes have been selected as captains for the program.
Named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, Diaz enjoyed a breakout senior campaign last year, earning All-MAAC First Team prestige, as well as MAAC Tournament MVP distinction. She notched 12 double-doubles last season and recorded 20 or more kills in three separate matches.
This season, Diaz has appeared in all nine matches for the Bobcats, totaling 78 digs, 53.5 points, 44 kills, 22 assists, and nine service aces.
Diaz led the Bobcats with 385 points, 337 kills, 321 digs, and 37 service aces and averaged 3.63 points, 3.18 kills and 3.03 digs per set. She stepped up her play in the playoffs, as she averaged 4.00 points, 4.18 digs and 3.27 kills per set over 11 sets played in the 2022 MAAC Tournament.
Last season Morse appeared in 87 sets across 26 matches as a junior, totaling 155.5 points, 123 kills, and 52.0 blocks. She averaged 1.79 points, 1.41 kills, and 0.60 blocks per set and recorded 10 or more kills in three matches, including a season-best 13 kills in the MAAC Championship victory over Fairfield. This season, Morse has appeared in eight matches for Quinnipiac, totaling 55.0 points, 46 kills, and a team-best 15.0 kills.
Last season, Ka'ahanui appeared in 41 sets across 21 matches and totaled 216 assists and 73 digs. She averaged 5.27 assists and 1.78 digs per set and recorded 30 or more assists in three matches. Her top performance last season came in a match against North Alabama, where she recorded a season-best 51 assists.
Damla Gunes had an explosive first season with Quinnipiac, as she earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors. As a rookie, she appeared in 95 sets across 28 matches and totaled 865 assists, 164 digs, 73.5 points, 35 service aces, and 31 blocks and averaged 9.11 assists and 1.73 digs per set.
Gunes stepped up in the playoffs as she averaged 11.09 assists and 1.45 digs per set during the MAAC Tournament. Gunes posted totals of 38, 36, and 48 assists during the span of the MAAC Tournament en route to being named to the All-MAAC Championship Team.
This season Gunes has appeared in all nine matches, totaling a league-best 312 assists so far. Gunes has totaled 30 or more assists in seven matches this season, including a season-best 50 helpers in the opener against Furman.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when the Bobcats return to Hamden for the 2023 home opener against Niagara at 1 p.m.
