Bobcats Fall Short in Battle at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball came up short on the road against Hokie Invitational hosts Virginia Tech, 3-0, inside of Cassell Coliseum.
With the loss, Quinnipiac moves to 0-2, while Virginia Tech improves to 2-0 to begin its season.

SET ONE (25-17, Virginia Tech)
The two sides traded points to a 4-4 tie before the Hokies crept ahead, 7-4. The Bobcats battled back to cut the deficit to one behind back-to-back errors, however, Virginia Tech responded with a 5-1 run to force a Quinnipiac timeout trailing 12-7.
A long rally out of the timeout sparked Quinnipiac, helping them get back on track.
The 5-2 run was capped by two kills from Lexi Morse, which cut the Hokies' lead to 14-12.
The Bobcats kept it as close as 18-15 before the Hokies went on to take the set 25-17.
SET TWO (25-17)
The Bobcats fell behind 8-2 before clawing back to trim the deficit to 9-6 after a swift 4-1 run. Virginia Tech responded by extending its lead to 17-10. However, Quinnipiac responded with a 6-1 run, capped by back-to-back kills from Leilani-kai Giusta and Aryanah Diaz to bring the Bobcats within two.
Virginia Tech responded with a 3-0 run to extend its lead to 21-16, forcing a Quinnipiac timeout. The deficit proved to be too much in the set as the Hokies eventually took the set, 25-17.
SET THREE (25-17)
After trailing early in the frame, the Bobcats clawed their way back into the set with a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 11-9.
However, the Hokies responded with a 6-1 run to go ahead 17-10, before eventually taking the set, 25-17.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, Aug. 26, when they conclude play at the Hokie Invitational with a match against Morgan State at 12:30 p.m.

- Aryanah Diaz led the Bobcats with eight kills and added eight digs
- Yagmur Gunes led Quinnipiac with 12 digs and contributed seven kills
- In her first collegiate start, Leilani-kai Giusta recorded six digs and four kills
- Damla Guned led the Bobcats with 23 assists
