ELON, N.C. – Anthony Donofrio led the offense with three hits and two RBIs as the Bobcats came up short in the series finale at Elon, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon at Latham Park.

With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 4-6 to open the season, while the Phoenix improved to 7-5 on the 2023 campaign with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two sides were scoreless through the first five innings before Quinnipiac struck first for a run in the sixth. With a runner on second, Anthony Donofrio lined a single up the middle to plate Zimbardo, pushing Quinnipiac ahead 1-0.

The Phoenix did not go away quietly, knotting the contest at 1-1 in the seventh. However, Donofrio put the Bobcats back ahead in the top of the eighth, lining a second RBI single to center to give Quinnipiac a 2-1 in the inning.

However, Elon responded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning, eventually talking the contest 9-2.

Kevin Seitter (0-2) got the start and took the loss after giving up five earned runs in 7.1 innings of work
