HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling is set for its second meet of the 2023 season, as the Bobcats play host to Augustana University in Hamden at 1:00 PM on ESPN+.
QU WINS HOME OPENER (2/11)
- The Quinnipiac Acrobatics & Tumbling program opened its 2023 season with a win on Saturday in Hamden, defeating Kutztown University 265.390 – 234.330 at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden.
- The Bobcats won all six events, taking every single heat in the matchup.
- Quinnipiac scored 37.350 in the compulsory event, recorded a 27.700 in Acro, tallied a 29.400 in Pyramid, posted a 27.150 in the Toss Event, logged a 54.650 score in Tumble, and finished up with a team score of 89.140.
- QU has now won both meetings vs. Kutztown (2022 and 2023).
- The Bobcats have now won three straight home openers (2020, 2022, 2023).

BOBCATS SELECTED AS PRESEASON #4
- Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling has been selected No. 4 nationally in the 2023 NCATA Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced via thencata.org.

- The Bobcats received 401 total points in the national poll, finishing just behind Baylor (494 points), Gannon (435 points) and Azusa Pacific (417 points). Defending national champion Baylor received 32 of 35 first-place votes.
- Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2023 season, as revealed by the NCATA.
- The Bobcats upcoming slate features six total events, including four at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden. Quinnipiac will open up the 2023 season on Feb. 11, playing host to Kutztown for a 1:30 PM start time.
- "Our staff and student-athletes are excited about the expansion of Acrobatics and Tumbling into the Northeast region," Quinnipiac Head Coach Mary Ann Powers said. "We are looking forward to new matchups this season and the addition of a fourth home meet for a fans to come out and support!"
- The Bobcats then play host to Augustana College March 5 at 1:00 PM, followed by a pair of road meets at Presbyterian College on March 18 and at Baylor University on March 25.
- QU wraps up the regular season schedule with a pair of home events, hosting Frostburg State University on April 1 followed by a matchup with Caldwell University on April 14.
- West Liberty University will host the NCATA 2023 National Championships. The NCATA National Championship returns to the state of West Virginia for the second time in the events history after being hosted by Fairmont State University back in 2015 at Joe Retton Arena.

- The Bobcats went 6-4 overall last season, advancing to the NCATA National Championships semifinal round vs. Baylor.
- The Bobcats earned a victory over Oregon in the quarterfinals on April 28, advancing to the NCATA semifinal round for the eighth time in 11 years.
- The group of Tiffany Zieba, Layla Tracey, Lyndsey Rudolph, and Summer Knoell earned an Individual Event Final National Championship by posting an 8.775 in the Quad Pass heat of the Tumbling event at this weekend's NCATA National Championships. The Bobcats defeated Hawaii Pacific in the event to earn the National Title in Saturday's Event Finals that would be the final competition of the 2022 season.
- Mary Ann Powers enters her 26th season as head coach for Quinnipiac Acrobatics & Tumbling in 2022-23. Powers has coached at several levels including Pop-Warner, All-Star level 6 squads and at the university level.
- Her greatest career achievement lies in her success with Quinnipiac University, where the team has remained a top-ten nationally ranked team since 2005. Their personal-best finish was fifth place in All-Girl Division I in 2007. In 2009, Powers became one of the founding coaches of the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA). In 2020, Powers' hard work along with her fellow co-founders reached new heights as the sport was adopted as an emerging sport for women by the NCAA.
- Quinnipiac has been competitive nationally in every season since the NCATA's creation. Over the last six seasons, the Bobcats have been ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation. Powers has led the Bobcats to the NCATA semifinals in eight of the last 11 seasons and has made to NCATA Championship meet appearances, most recently in the 2018 season.

- QU's second meet of the 2023 campaign will take place on March 5, as the Bobcats will play host to Augustana University in Hamden.
